This verse in the King James

King James wording
And after that Hezron was dead in Caleb-ephratah, then Abiah Hezron’s wife bare him Ashur the father of Tekoa.

The Hebrew verb for “bare” shares its root with both “child” and “generations,” so birth here already contains the continuation of a line.

Hezron’s death stands beside Abiah’s birth of Ashhur, who becomes father of Tekoa; neither fact cancels the other. The verse speaks now wherever an ending seems to be the whole story: what has ended is real, yet continuation can still emerge.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that a death makes every continuation impossible.

וַתֵּלֶד

vattēled

GROWS FROM

ילד

to bear, beget, bring forth

“brought forth” in this verse is vattēled. ⁨וַתֵּלֶד⁩ (vattēled, “she bore”) grows from ⁨ילד⁩ (yalad, “to bear or beget”), the same root heard in ⁨יֶלֶד⁩ (yeled, “child”) and ⁨תּוֹלְדוֹת⁩ (toledot, “generations”). Abiah’s name, ⁨אֲבִיָּה⁩ (Aviyyah, “Yah is my father”), brings fatherhood into the line while the verse names her as the one who bears Ashhur.

ALSO GROWS

yeled: child; one born

יֶלֶד

The root names both the act of bearing and the child brought forth.

toledot: generations; descendants

תּוֹלְדוֹת

The same root carries birth forward into the line of generations that Ashhur continues.

Scripture can place new life or fruit beside death, allowing continuation without denying loss.

And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son, and called his name Seth, the placed one, for she said, God has placed for me another seed in place of Abel, whom Cain killed.
Genesis 4:25 · SDVA birth from the same Hebrew root follows Abel’s death and is named as another seed.
Truly, truly, I say to you. Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.
John 12:24 · SDVThe seed’s death stands beside the fruit it brings forth.
Mindless one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies.
1 Corinthians 15:36 · SDVThe verse holds death and the emergence of new life within one image of sowing.
And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son, and called his name Seth, the placed one, for she said, God has placed for me another seed in place of Abel, whom Cain killed.
Genesis 4:25 · SDV

“Bare” in both verses translates a form of ⁨ילד⁩ (yalad, “to bear or beget”). In Genesis, the verse names Abel’s death and then another seed; here, Hezron’s death stands beside Abiah’s bearing of Ashhur.
