King James wording
King James Version
And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it.THE KEY
The Hebrew says the successor is given and set in place, with the LORD as giver and the king’s eyes as witness.
THE MEANING
A place changes hands in full view, and the verse names the LORD as the source of the one set upon the throne. The blessing and the seeing arrive together: the gift is acknowledged as it becomes visible.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It dissolves the belief that authority is only self-made: the verse names the LORD as the one who gives the successor his place.
THE ROOT
נָתַן
natan
GROWS FROM
נתן
to give, give over, set, or place
“set one to settle on my throne” in this verse is natan. Here נָתַן (natan, to give or set in place) presents succession as a received placement, not merely a seat occupied by human claim. The root holds giving and setting together, while “mine eyes even seeing it” makes that gift visible.
ALSO GROWS
natun: given; placed
נָתוּן
This form keeps the sense of being given joined to being set in place, as the successor is placed upon the throne.
netinah: giving; an act or gift of giving
נְתִינָה
This noun keeps the verse’s emphasis on the act of giving: the throne’s next occupant is named as received from the LORD.
THE PATTERN
A place or authority received from God can be recognized as a gift rather than treated as self-made.
Both riches and weight come from your face, and you reign over all; and in your hand is strength and might, and in your hand it is to make great, and to strengthen all.For God is the judge. This one he brings low, and this one he lifts.John answered and said, "A person can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from the heavens."THE THREAD
And I have also given you what you have not asked, both riches and weight, so that among the kings there shall be none like you all your days. The same root appears in נָתַתִּי (natati, “I have given”), as the verse names riches and honor granted to Solomon. Together, the verses connect the throne’s placement with the gifts that accompany it.
