King James wording
King James Version
And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.THE KEY
The second and third pourings turn water from an obstacle into evidence: the altar is made impossible to ignite by human means.
THE MEANING
The command returns, and each return deepens the saturation around the offering. What looks like an obstacle becomes evidence: the water leaves no plausible hidden flame behind.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The lie that repeating an act changes nothing falls away here: each pouring changes the conditions until the result cannot be mistaken for human ignition.
THE ROOT
שֵׁנִית
shenit
GROWS FROM
שנה
repeat, do again; in another form, change or alter
“second time” in this verse is shenit. English makes “second” sound merely positional, while the Hebrew word grows from the root of doing again. Here, each return changes the conditions: the repeated pouring accumulates until the water itself becomes part of the sign.
ALSO GROWS
shanah: to repeat or do again; also a year
שָׁנָה
A year marks a returning cycle, echoing the recurrence carried by the command to pour again.
mishneh: a second, double, or copy
מִשְׁנֶה
This branch makes the root’s link between repetition and doubling visible in the second pouring.
THE PATTERN
Repetition makes significance visible by carrying an act or message beyond a single occurrence.
And as for the dream being doubled to the Great House twice, it is because the word is set firm by God, and God will hasten to do it.And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early at the break of dawn, and circled the city in the same manner seven times. Only on that day they circled the city seven times. For this I urged the Lord three times, that it might step away from me.THE THREAD
Then the fire of the LORD fell, and ate the rising offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the waters that were in the trench. The repeated drenches establish what the fire must overcome. The next verse names even the water among what the fire consumes, making the water evidence of the sign’s force rather than an obstacle.
