This verse in the King James

King James wording
As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

The gift is grace made usable: what reaches you is already shaped to reach someone else.

What you receive is a gift, and it is already oriented toward another person. You are a steward of God’s many-sided favor: it takes the shape of your particular ability as you serve. The grace reaches beyond you without ceasing to be what you received.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The belief that a gift’s value lies in possessing it alone dissolves here: it is entrusted to become service to another.

χάρισμα

charisma

GROWS FROM

χάρ-

char-

Favor, goodwill, grace freely bestowed.

“Gift” and “grace” belong to the same Greek word-family in this verse: one names what you receive, the other the favor from which it comes. The gift is grace taking a form that can serve someone else.

ALSO GROWS

charis: Favor, grace.

χάρις

The verse names God’s favor as the source from which the gift comes.

charizomai: To show favor, grant freely.

χαρίζομαι

This branch makes the gift’s character visible: it is granted as favor, then entrusted for service.

οἰκονόμοι

oikonomoi

GROWS FROM

⁨οἶκος⁩ + ⁨νέμω⁩ (oikos + nemō)

Household + to manage or distribute.

“stewards” in this verse is oikonomoi. The steward is pictured as a household manager: what is in your hands belongs within a shared household and is held for its care. That makes the passage from receiving to serving a movement of distribution, rather than proof of private ownership.

ALSO GROWS

oikos: House, household.

οἶκος

The gift is held within a shared household, where its use reaches beyond the steward.

oikonomia: Household management, stewardship.

οἰκονομία

This branch names the entrusted care of resources that the verse applies to God’s varied favor.

What is received as divine capacity becomes shared service through the person entrusted with it.

And I have filled him with the breath of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of work.
Exodus 31:3 · SDVWisdom, understanding, and skill arrive as gifts and take form in work that serves a shared dwelling.
We have gifts that differ according to the favor given to us. If prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to trust.
Romans 12:6 · SDVDifferent gifts arise from given favor and become distinct forms of service.
But the showing of the breath is given to each one, for what carries us together.
1 Corinthians 12:7 · SDVWhat is given to each person finds its purpose in the good shared with others.
We have gifts that differ according to the favor given to us. If prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to trust.
Romans 12:6 · SDV

Romans ties gifts and the favor given in one sentence, using the same Greek word-family for gift and grace that 1 Peter 4:10 places side by side. It sharpens the image: varied gifts are favor taking distinct forms, entrusted for one another.
