This verse in the King James

King James wording
And take the ark of the LORD, and lay it upon the cart; and put the jewels of gold, which ye return him for a trespass offering, in a coffer by the side thereof; and send it away, that it may go.

Release is joined to acknowledgment: the ark is sent away, while the gold named as a trespass offering travels beside it.

Release here takes physical form: the ark is placed on a cart and sent away. The gold offering remains beside it, naming the trespass even as the ark departs. Acknowledgment and letting go belong to the same movement.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

This undoes the belief that letting go requires pretending no wrong occurred: the trespass is named, and an offering accompanies the release.

וְשִׁלַּחְתֶּם

veshillachtem

GROWS FROM

שלח

to send forth, release, or let go

“send it away” in this verse is veshillachtem. The verb is shalach (⁨שָׁלַח⁩, send forth or release), the same word family behind Shiloach, “Sent.” Here, release is not an idea detached from what happened: the ark moves away, with the trespass offering beside it.

Exodus 10:3 · SDVThe command uses shalach: the people are to be released from the hold that keeps them there.
The breath of the LORD is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the emptied. He has sent me to heal the shattered in heart, to herald release to the captives, and the return of sight for the blind, to send the crushed away into release.
Luke 4:18 · SDVRelease reaches those held captive and those whose sight is covered; the movement opens into freedom and seeing.
And he said to him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, the Sent. So he went and washed, and came seeing.
John 9:7 · SDV

Siloam is the Greek form of the Hebrew name Shiloach, “Sent,” from the same root as “send it away” here. In this verse the sending carries the ark away; in John, the sent water is where sight is restored.
