King James wording
King James Version
Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.THE KEY
The burden and the restoring work are preserved together, so repair itself becomes part of the inheritance.
THE MEANING
The weight you carry and the restoring work you do belong in the same record. The act of establishing what is sacred can outlast your own season, and the burden borne for it remains part of that account.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The lie it undoes is that only the finished result deserves remembrance; the weight borne in restoring it belongs in the same account.
THE ROOT
יְסוֹד
yesod
GROWS FROM
יָסַד
yasad
To establish or lay a foundation.
“strengthening” in this verse is yesod. The word KJV renders “repairing” comes from יָסַד (yasad, to establish or lay a foundation). Its depth is structural: the house is repaired by being re-established, giving it a base that can hold what follows.
ALSO GROWS
yesod: Foundation, basis.
יְסוֹד
The word names what holds the house in place; repair also carries the sense of re-establishing its base.
mosad: Base, established foundation.
מוֹסָד
This related form extends the image from a repair task to a grounded structure that can endure.
מַשָּׂא
massa
GROWS FROM
נָשָׂא
nasa
To lift, carry, or bear.
“burdens” in this verse is massa. The burden laid upon a person is named with a word from the same root as lifting and carrying. Hebrew holds the weight and the act of bearing it in one word-family, so what is carried is not incidental to the role it accompanies.
ALSO GROWS
nasa: To lift, carry, or bear.
נָשָׂא
The noun for a burden grows from the action of carrying; a burden is what is borne.
nasi: Leader, chief; one raised up.
נָשִׂיא
The same root family can name both what is borne and the one elevated, letting the verse’s weight touch the shape of authority.
THE PATTERN
The labor that restores a sacred dwelling enters a record that reaches beyond the person who bears it.
This is written for the generation to come, and a people yet to be created praise the LORD.According to the favor of God that was given to me, as a wise master builder I laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one watch how he builds on it.And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they stood the priests, clothed in their garments, with trumpets, and the Levites, the sons of Asaph, with cymbals, to praise the LORD, by the hand of David king of Israel.THE THREAD
Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a weighty cornerstone, a foundation set firm. The one who leans his weight will not hurry.Isaiah describes God laying a foundation in Zion using the same root יסד (yasad, to establish or lay a foundation) that underlies “repairing” here. It reveals repair as renewed establishment: the sacred house is restored at the level that can bear what comes next.
