This verse in the King James

King James wording
Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.

The word for the gift and the word for thanksgiving share a root: favor received by many becomes gratitude voiced by many.

Your prayer joins the help moving toward another person, and the gift received becomes thanksgiving rising from many voices. What reaches one through many does not end with one; gratitude carries it outward again.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

This undoes the belief that prayer is powerless goodwill with no part in what reaches another: here, shared prayer joins the help, and the received gift multiplies thanksgiving.
