This verse in the King James

King James wording
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

The day star is more than a light above you: this verse places the light-bearer’s rising within your heart.

The prophetic word is a lamp for you in obscurity, something you attend to while the day is still dawning. Its horizon is not only a brighter world around you: the light-bearer rises within your heart.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The belief that illumination can only come from outside you gives way: the verse describes the light-bearer arising in your heart.

φωσφόρος

phōsphoros

GROWS FROM

⁨φῶς⁩ (phōs, light) + -⁨φόρος⁩ (-phoros, bearing; from ⁨φέρω⁩, pherō, to bear or carry)

Light-bearer: one who bears or carries light.

“light-bearing star” in this verse is phōsphoros. The word holds both an image and an action: light is being carried into view. The verse places this light-bearing arrival within the heart, so its dawn is inward as well as visible.

ALSO GROWS

phōs: light

φῶς

This is the light-element within “day star,” linking the star’s arrival to the illumination already described in the verse.

pherō: to bear, carry

φέρω

This verb supplies the bearing sense: the day star is a carrier of light, not only an object seen in the sky.

Light guides through obscurity and can rise within the person it illuminates.

Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105 · SDVThe word serves as a lamp and light along the reader’s path.
And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not take hold of it.
John 1:5 · SDVLight shines within darkness, as the lamp shines in the obscure place.
The people who sat in darkness saw a great light, and for those who sat in the land of deepest darkness, a light rose up on them.
Matthew 4:16 · SDVLight rises where darkness has been present, echoing the verse’s dawning day.
And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not take hold of it.
John 1:5 · SDV

John names the light as ⁨φῶς⁩ (phōs, light), the same word-family at the heart of ⁨φωσφόρος⁩ (phōsphoros, light-bearer). His light shines in darkness; Peter’s image moves from a lamp in obscurity to the light-bearer rising within the heart.
