This verse in the King James

King James wording
Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul.

A warning can be heard and still lose when visible expertise feels more persuasive than the truth it carries.

You can give greater weight to advice backed by visible authority than to a warning whose truth is not yet apparent. The verse exposes how choosing whom to trust also determines which voice gets to steer what happens next.

ἐπείθετο

epeitheto

GROWS FROM

πείθω

peithō

To persuade, win over, or bring into trust; in the middle or passive form, to be persuaded, heed, or obey.

“yielded to” in this verse is epeitheto. The Greek form can describe persuasion that turns into practical heed, not only private assent. The same root can mean being convinced or obeying, so the verse makes belief visible in whose judgment directs the next step.

ALSO GROWS

epeithonto: They were persuaded by him; the KJV renders this form “obeyed” in Acts 5:36.

ἐπείθοντο

The form shows how persuasion can become action: the voice that wins belief also directs behavior.

pepeismai: A settled conviction, as in Romans 8:38.

πέπεισμαι

The same root can describe conviction that holds firm, revealing how much depends on which voice a person trusts.

When voices compete, trust reveals which source is allowed to direct action.

The open one leans his weight on every word, but the shrewd one discerns his step.
Proverbs 14:15 · SDVThe verse links what a person believes with the path they take.
He said to him, I am a prophet also, as you are, and a messenger spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with you into your house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied to him.
1 Kings 13:18 · SDVA voice claiming authority persuades another person to change course, even though its claim is false.
Then Peter and the other sent ones answered and said, We must obey God rather than humankind.
Acts 5:29 · SDVThe apostles name the choice of which authority gets to govern their response.
For I am leaning my full weight upon this, that neither death, nor life, nor messengers, nor rulers, nor powers, nor things standing here, nor things about to come.
Romans 8:38 · SDV

“I am persuaded” (⁨πέπεισμαι⁩, pepeismai) shares the root ⁨πείθω⁩ with the centurion’s “believed” (⁨ἐπείθετο⁩, epeitheto). The same root can name a conviction that holds firm, bringing the weight of the centurion’s choice into view.
