This verse in the King James

King James wording
He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

The exit is not the whole deliverance: the leading continues through sea and wilderness.

God’s leading carries you out of constriction through more than one boundary. Wonders and signs mark the passage, while the wilderness shows that the way out can still be unfolding long after the first escape.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The belief that freedom must arrive in one clean instant dissolves here: crossing out of Egypt does not mean the whole passage is over.

ἐξήγαγεν

exēgagen

GROWS FROM

ἄγω

agō

lead, bring

“brought them out” in this verse is exēgagen. The verb’s root carries the sense of leading, so this is guided movement outward, not merely a change of location. The leading crosses Egypt, the sea, and the wilderness; the passage itself belongs to the way out.

ALSO GROWS

agō: lead, bring

ἄγω

This is the seed verb in the verse’s “brought them out,” carrying the idea of movement under a guide.

exagō: lead out, bring out

ἐξάγω

The prefix marks movement outward from a place that holds people in.

synagō: gather together

συνάγω

The same root can describe leading people into a shared gathering, showing how its direction changes while the act of leading remains.

Deliverance moves people from constriction through a passage toward spaciousness, and the wilderness can still belong to the way out.

And I have come down to snatch them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land into a good and wide land, a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
Exodus 3:8 · SDVThe movement is from bondage toward a good and large land, naming spaciousness as the destination.
He brings them out of darkness and the valley of deepest darkness, and tears their bonds apart.
Psalm 107:14 · SDVBeing brought out of darkness and having bonds broken makes release a passage from confinement into freedom.
The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and lifted up the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with a raised arm he brought them out of it.
Acts 13:17 · SDV

Acts 13:17 uses the same Greek verb, ⁨ἐξήγαγεν⁩ (exēgagen, led out), for bringing the people out of Egypt. The echo makes the movement clear: the sea and wilderness are stages along the path, not evidence that the leading has stopped.
