This verse in the King James

King James wording
Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, in the province of Babylon.

The word translated “promoted” carries the sense of being made to advance, so the men’s elevation is a movement into success within Babylon itself.

The verse brings a change of standing into view: a place associated with danger can also become a place where your capacity is recognized. Here, advancement happens within Babylon, not through leaving it.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It loosens the belief that a place associated with threat can only keep you powerless: the men are advanced within that very province.

הַצְלַח

hatslach

GROWS FROM

צלח

ts-l-ḥ

To advance, succeed, or prosper; in Hebrew usage, also to rush or come mightily upon.

“made great” in this verse is hatslach. In this Aramaic verb, the king causes the three men to advance; the same consonantal seed also speaks of prospering. Their promotion is both a change of standing and a movement into success.

ALSO GROWS

hatslach: Prospered

הַצְלַח

Daniel 6:28 uses this same Aramaic form, translated “prospered,” linking the men’s promotion with Daniel’s success.

yatsliach: Will prosper, succeed

יַצְלִיחַ

This Hebrew form describes the fruitful tree’s outcome in Psalm 1:3, extending the root’s sense of advancement into flourishing.

vatitslach: Rushed upon, came mightily upon

וַתִּצְלַח

In Judges 14:6 this form describes the Spirit of the LORD rushing upon Samson, revealing the root’s sense of forceful movement.

A reversal of standing can place someone who was low in a position of authority.

For God is the judge. This one he brings low, and this one he lifts.
Psalm 75:7 · SDVThe verse names a change in standing as one person is set down and another raised.
And the king drew off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. And Esther placed Mordecai over the house of Haman.
Esther 8:2 · SDVMordecai receives authority in the very house that belonged to the man who threatened his people.
For everyone who lifts himself will be brought low; and the one who lowers himself will be lifted up.
Luke 14:11 · SDVThe verse describes standing turning as the humble are raised.
So this Daniel broke through in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
Daniel 6:28 · SDV

Daniel 6:28 uses the same Aramaic form ⁨הַצְלַח⁩ (hatslach), meaning “prospered,” that Daniel 3:30 uses for “promoted.” The English gives the two verses different words, while the Aramaic connects both to advancement and success.
