This verse in the King James

King James wording
Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king’s decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

The decree binds the king too: his own signed words turn his authority into a boundary he cannot cross.

A word can bind the one who gives it: the king’s rule now makes a request to any god or person punishable by death, and confines his own authority within that rule. Its permanence serves the trap built against him.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie that power always lets you take your words back dissolves here: the king cannot step outside the decree he signed.

אֱסָר

ʾĕsār

GROWS FROM

אסר

ʾ-s-r

To bind, tie, or make fast.

“bond” in this verse is ʾĕsār. The Aramaic word translated “decree” carries the image of binding. Its force binds the people who ask, and the king who signs it is bound by the same words.

ʾāsūr: Bound; forbidden.

אָסוּר

The decree’s force is a bond: it makes a request forbidden and leaves the king bound to the rule he established.

ʾāsîr: Prisoner; captive.

אָסִיר
