This verse in the King James

King James wording
And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.

A power can prosper while truth is underfoot, because success measures force, not truth.

Here you see a force granted power against the continual offering through rebellion: it throws truth to the ground and keeps prospering. Its success is real, but it does not make the rebellion true or make truth less firm.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

A power that prospers must be right, and what it suppresses must be false.

אֱמֶת

ʾemet

GROWS FROM

אמן

ʾ-m-n

To be firm, reliable, or confirmed.

⁨אֱמֶת⁩ (ʾemet, truth) carries the sense of what is firm and reliable. Casting it to the ground describes truth being treated as powerless; the force’s success does not change what is firm.

ALSO GROWS

ʾāmēn: Truly; surely; an affirmation of firmness.

אָמֵן

The familiar affirmation echoes the same root of reliability beneath “truth.”

ʾĕmûnāh: Steadiness; trust that leans its full weight on what is reliable.

אֱמוּנָה

This branch shows that truth is something a person can stand on, even when power pushes it down.

neʾĕmān: Reliable; firm; trustworthy.

נֶאֱמָן

It carries the same quality of dependability that the verse says is thrown to the ground.

פֶּשַׁע

peshaʿ

GROWS FROM

פשע

p-sh-ʿ

To rebel or break away.

⁨פֶּשַׁע⁩ (peshaʿ, rebellion) names an active break, not merely a mistake. In this verse, rebellion is the condition linked to the force’s opposition and truth’s fall.

ALSO GROWS

pāshaʿ: To rebel or break away.

פָּשַׁע

The verb makes the rebellion an action that opens the way for opposition.

pōshēaʿ: A rebel; one who breaks away.

פּוֹשֵׁעַ

This branch names the agent of the break that the verse associates with the attack on truth.

וְהִצְלִיחָה

ve-hitzlīḥāh

GROWS FROM

צלח

ts-l-ḥ

To advance, succeed, or prosper.

“made its way” in this verse is ve-hitzlīḥāh. ⁨צָלַח⁩ (tsālaḥ, advance or prosper) describes forward success, not approval or truth. The verse lets the force advance while truth is cast down, keeping visible success separate from what is firm.

ALSO GROWS

hitzlīaḥ: He succeeded or prospered.

הִצְלִיחַ

This form appears in Genesis 24:21, where a journey is made prosperous; it shows the root’s focus on success or progress.

yatslīaḥ: He will prosper.

יַצְלִיחַ

Psalm 1:3 uses this form for what prospers, again describing an outcome rather than declaring its cause true.

Rebellion can suppress or overturn truth and appear to prosper, but visible success does not define what is true.

And judgment is turned backward, and alignment stands far off. For truth has stumbled in the open, and straightness cannot enter.
Isaiah 59:14 · SDVTruth’s fall is visible in public life, while justice is kept at a distance.
Hush before the LORD, and wait for him in labor. Do not burn yourself because of the one who pushes through on his way, because of the man who makes schemes.
Psalm 37:7 · SDVThe verse names the troubling reality that a person can prosper while bringing wicked plans to pass.
For the burning of God's anger is unveiled from the heavens against all irreverence and unalignment of humankind, who hold down the truth in unalignment.
Romans 1:18 · SDVThe Greek expression for “hold” depicts people suppressing truth while acting in unrighteousness.
The head of your word is truth, and every judgment of your alignment stands for the ages.
Psalm 119:160 · SDV

The word translated “true” here is the same Hebrew noun ⁨אֱמֶת⁩ (ʾemet, truth) that Daniel says is thrown to the ground. Psalm 119 says this truth endures, so being cast down describes how it is treated, not a change in what is firm.
