King James wording
King James Version
If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee:THE KEY
The edge of the heavens is still inside the reach of the gathering.
THE MEANING
Even when your life is carried to the farthest edge, God gathers you from there and takes you from there. Distance names where you are; it does not set the limit of God’s reach.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the fear that being scattered beyond everything familiar means you are beyond being gathered.
THE ROOT
יְקַבֶּצְךָ
yəqabbəṣkha
GROWS FROM
קבץ
qavats
to gather, collect, assemble
“gather you” in this verse is yəqabbəṣkha. The Hebrew word pictures bringing separated things into a collected whole. Even the farthest edge named in the verse is a place from which that gathering can happen.
ALSO GROWS
qibbēts: gathered or collected
קִבֵּץ
This form shows that gathering is an active bringing together, not simply a change of location.
miqbaṣ: a collection or gathering
מִקְבָּץ
The noun carries the root’s image of separate things becoming a collected whole.
נִדָּח
niddāḥ
GROWS FROM
נדח
nadach
to push away, drive out, banish
“driven away” in this verse is niddāḥ. The Hebrew names real displacement: someone is thrust away from their place. Yet the verse makes that far-off place the starting point of gathering, so distance does not become the final word.
ALSO GROWS
niddāḥim: outcasts, those driven away
נִדָּחִים
This is the same image of people displaced from their place, echoed in the verse’s promise to gather them.
hiddiaḥ: to drive away or turn aside
הִדִּיחַ
This form brings out the force behind the scattering: a person can be pushed away, yet still be reached.
THE PATTERN
Being scattered to the farthest place does not cancel the gathering that can reach you there.
Even there your hand leads me, and your right hand grasps me.As a shepherd looks over his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered, so I will look over my sheep. I will snatch them out of every place where they were scattered in the day of cloud and thick darkness. And not for that nation only, but that he would also gather together into one the children of God who were scattered abroad.THE THREAD
And he will lift a banner for the nations, and gather in the driven ones of Israel, and gather the scattered of Judah from the four wings of the earth.Isaiah’s “gather together” is קָבַץ (qavats, gather or collect), the same root as “gather thee” here; “outcasts” echoes נִדָּח (niddāḥ, one driven away). The two roots trace the whole movement: people are driven away, yet even from the four corners they remain within the reach of gathering.
