This verse in the King James

King James wording
While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:

The clouds do not merely linger; ⁨שׁוּב⁩ (shuv, return) says they turn back after rain, making even a clearing part of a cycle of renewed covering.

You live beneath light that can dim; even after rain, clouds gather again. A clearing is real, but it does not make the sky permanently clear.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The storm has passed, so the covering is gone for good.

וְשָׁבוּ

veshavu

GROWS FROM

שׁוּב

shuv

To turn back or return.

The clouds do not simply remain after the rain; the Hebrew says they turn back. This root also carries the sense of turning and bringing back, so the verse holds a clearing and its recurrence in the same motion.

ALSO GROWS

shuv: Turn, return.

שׁוּב

The clouds return after the rain, making renewed covering part of the image.

teshuvah: Turning, return.

תְּשׁוּבָה

The same root’s turning motion appears here in the sky’s return, not as a one-time departure but as a recurring movement.

heshiv: Bring back, restore.

הֵשִׁיב

The root can describe what comes back or is brought back; here the clouds come back after the rain.

The created world moves through recurring patterns of passing and return.

The breath goes toward the south and turns around to the north; turning and turning, it goes, and upon its circuits it returns.
Ecclesiastes 1:6 · SDVThe wind turns and returns in circuits, like the clouds that come back after rain.
All the days of the earth, sowing and reaping, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not stop.
Genesis 8:22 · SDVThe verse names the recurring rhythms of the earth as a pattern that continues.
Be slow to heat therefore, brethren, until the arrival of the LORD. Look, the one who works the soil waits for the costly fruit of the earth, and is slow to heat over it until he takes in the early and late rain.
James 5:7 · SDVThe early and latter rains mark recurring returns within the seasons of growth.
For as the rain comes down, and the snow from the heavens, and does not return there, but drenches the earth, and makes it bear and sprout, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater.
Isaiah 55:10 · SDV

Both verses use ⁨שׁוּב⁩ (shuv, turn/return): here the clouds return after rain; there the rain does not return before watering the earth. The shared root holds two movements together: clouds come back, while rain first completes its work in the earth.
