This verse in the King James

King James wording
If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

The verse says truth is not merely about Jesus: it is in him, and hearing and learning bring you into it.

When you hear him, you are taught in him, where truth is present. Hearing and learning are forms of encounter with the one whose name carries deliverance.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

This undoes the belief that truth is only a set of correct statements, detachable from the one in whom it is found.

ἀλήθεια

alētheia

GROWS FROM

ληθ-

lēth-

The ⁨ληθ-⁩ (lēth-) family carries the sense of being hidden or escaping notice; with a privative alpha, ⁨ἀλήθεια⁩ is often understood as what is unhidden or unconcealed.

The word’s formation evokes what no longer stays hidden. Here, truth is located in Jesus: it is disclosed in a person, not detached information.

ALSO GROWS

lanthanō: be hidden, escape notice

λανθάνω

Its shared word family gives “truth” the sense of what comes into view rather than remaining concealed.

lēthē: forgetfulness, oblivion

λήθη

The contrast with concealment makes truth more than a correct statement: it is what breaks through what has been lost from view.

יֵשׁוּעַ

Yēshūaʿ

GROWS FROM

ישע

y-sh-ʿ

To deliver or rescue, bringing someone into safety and out of constriction.

“Jesus” in this verse is Yēshūaʿ. The name in which truth is found carries the nature of deliverance. The verse joins unveiled truth with movement out of constriction and toward spaciousness.

ALSO GROWS

yāshaʿ: deliver, rescue

יָשַׁע

This verb carries the deliverance within the name Jesus, tying truth in him to being brought out.

yeshuʿah: deliverance

יְשׁוּעָה

The related noun shows that the name holds deliverance as its nature, not merely as a title.

mōshiaʿ: deliverer

מוֹשִׁיעַ

This related word names the one who brings deliverance, illuminating why truth is said to be in Jesus.

Truth is encountered through teaching and relationship, and it opens a path into freedom.

Set me walking in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my deliverance; toward you I am stretched all the day.
Psalm 25:5 · SDVTruth and teaching meet as a way that leads into deliverance.
Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 14:6 · SDVJesus names truth as something present in a person, joined to a way and a life.
And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
John 8:32 · SDVEncounter with truth bears the fruit of release.
And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
John 8:32 · SDV

Both verses use ⁨ἀλήθεια⁩ (alētheia) for “truth,” a word often understood through the idea of what is unhidden. Ephesians locates that truth in Jesus; John connects knowing it with freedom.
