This verse in the King James

King James wording
For he sent letters into all the king’s provinces, into every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language, that every man should bear rule in his own house, and that it should be published according to the language of every people.

Here, authority travels in each people’s language and reaches its most intimate scale, the household.

The verse holds two scales together: each man rules in his own house, while the decree reaches every people in that people’s language. Authority moves through familiar speech and into the household, joining the words people hear with the order of home.

וּמְדַבֵּר

u-medabber

GROWS FROM

ד־ב־ר

d-b-r

To speak, utter words.

“speak” in this verse is u-medabber. The final clause holds a spoken dimension: ⁨וּמְדַבֵּר⁩ (u-medabber, “and speaking”) shares its root with ⁨דָּבָר⁩ (davar, “word, matter”). That links the decree’s movement through languages to the speech through which authority is lived at home.

ALSO GROWS

davar: A word or matter.

דָּבָר

The same consonants connect speech with the words or matters carried by the decree.

dibber: To speak or address.

דִּבֵּר

This verbal form makes speech part of the verse’s household order.

שֹׂרֵר

sorer

GROWS FROM

שׂ־ר־ר

ś-r-r

To rule or exercise authority.

“be chief” in this verse is sorer. The Hebrew describes each man as actively ruling in his house. Its root family also names chiefs and rulers, bringing the language of public rank into the household.

ALSO GROWS

sar: A person who holds authority or rank.

שַׂר

The related title gives the household rule the shape of a person exercising authority.

sarim: Plural form of chief or ruler.

שָׂרִים

This plural form echoes the verse’s distribution of authority to each man in his own house.

Speech reaches communal life through the language people recognize as their own.

When this voice arose, the crowd came together and was poured into confusion, because each one heard them speaking in his own tongue.
Acts 2:6 · SDVEach person hears the message in the language that is his own.
So also you, unless you give through the tongue a word with a clear sign, how shall what is spoken be known? For you will be speaking into the air.
1 Corinthians 14:9 · SDVSpeech carries meaning into a community when its words can be understood.
After this I see, and look, a great crowd that no one can number, from every nation and tribe and people and tongue, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, wrapped in white robes, with palm branches in their hands.
Revelation 7:9 · SDVThe gathering holds many peoples and tongues together without erasing their difference.
Death and life are in the hand of the tongue, and those who love it eat its fruit.
Proverbs 18:21 · SDV

Esther’s “language” is ⁨לָשׁוֹן⁩ (lashon, “tongue; language”), the same word Proverbs uses for the tongue that carries death and life. The shared word reveals speech as an active force with consequences, not merely a wrapper for authority.
