This verse in the King James

King James wording
Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said, I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you.

This confession names a double breach, against the LORD and against the person addressed, so the missed mark is relational, not merely private.

When failure is named, its reach becomes visible: the breach can be against God and against the person in front of you. The Hebrew behind “sinned” carries the sense of missing; confession brings that miss into speech. Urgency can bring words into the open, but by itself it does not show that the course has turned.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

Wrongdoing is only between me and God.

To miss, fail to reach, or do wrong.

“missed the mark” in this verse is chata'ti. The word translated “sinned” grows from a root of missing. The confession brings that miss into speech and names whom it is against: the LORD and the person addressed.

ALSO GROWS

chet: Missing; sin.

חֵטְא

This noun makes the root’s sense of a miss audible beneath the familiar word “sin.”

chatta't: Sin; an offering for the missing.

חַטָּאת

The same word-family can name both the wrong and an offering associated with it, keeping the missing and its remedy connected.

Confession brings wrongdoing into the open by naming it instead of covering it.

I make my falling short known to you, and my crookedness I do not cover. I say, I will speak my rebellion into the open before the LORD, and you release the crookedness of my falling short. Selah.
Psalm 32:5 · SDVThe speaker stops hiding the wrong and brings it into words before the LORD.
Whoever covers his rebellions shall not prosper, but whoever speaks them into the open and lets them go shall be shown compassion.
Proverbs 28:13 · SDVThe verse sets concealed wrongdoing against wrongdoing that is confessed and left behind.
If we speak our shortcomings into the open, he is steady and aligned, to release our shortcomings, and to cleanse us from all crookedness.
1 John 1:9 · SDVConfession opens what was hidden to forgiveness and cleansing.
And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, I have missed the mark this time. The LORD is aligned, and I and my people are wicked.
Exodus 9:27 · SDV

The same Hebrew root sits behind “I have sinned” in both verses. The repeated confession lets you hear that naming the miss can recur under pressure; the word names the failure, while the response reveals what follows.
