King James wording
King James Version
Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.THE KEY
The LORD’s majesty is not distant radiance here; it is power in action that shatters the enemy.
THE MEANING
The verse speaks of divine power as active, not distant display: the LORD’s hand breaks the enemy. What presses against the reader does not possess ultimate force; the verse places the final power with the one who acts against it.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The enemy’s strength is final and cannot be broken.
THE ROOT
נֶאְדָּרִי
ne'dari
GROWS FROM
אדר
To be majestic, mighty, or magnificent.
“majestic” in this verse is ne'dari. אדר carries majesty and might, so glorious in power is not decoration laid over strength: splendor is what this force looks like as it acts. The same root describes might over the sea, joining the LORD’s hand here to a power no threatening force can overwhelm.
ALSO GROWS
addir: Mighty, majestic (Psalm 93:4).
אַדִּיר
The same root describes the LORD as mightier than the sea’s waves, connecting the majesty of this hand with power that surpasses a threatening force.
ya'dir: Make majestic, magnify, make honorable (Isaiah 42:21).
יַאְדִּיר
This verb shows the root also names an action that makes something visibly great; here, majesty is made visible through the LORD’s decisive act.
THE PATTERN
The LORD’s power becomes visible in decisive action that overturns forces standing against deliverance.
A Psalm. Sing to the LORD a new song, for he works wonders. His right hand and his set-apart arm deliver him.He has worked strength with his arm, and scattered those lifted high in the thinking of their hearts.THE THREAD
The LORD in the height is mightier than the voices of many waters, than the mighty breakers of the sea.The word translated mighty for the sea’s waves is אַדִּיר (addir, mighty or majestic), from the same אדר root as glorious in Exodus 15:6. The shared root joins majesty and force: the hand that shatters the enemy belongs to the one whose might surpasses even the sea’s surge.
