This verse in the King James

King James wording
And two other rings of gold thou shalt make, and shalt put them on the two sides of the ephod underneath, toward the forepart thereof, over against the other coupling thereof, above the curious girdle of the ephod.

The ephod’s unity is supported at the seam: the rings sit opposite its joining, above the woven band.

The gold rings are placed where the ephod’s pieces meet, with their position set in relation to the joining and the woven band. The verse brings hidden support into view and locates it precisely beneath the garment’s visible form.

⁨חָבַר⁩ (ḥābar) means to join or bind together.

The English “coupling” can sound like a piece of hardware, but ⁨מַחְבַּרְתּוֹ⁩ (maḥabbartô) names the joining itself. The same root can describe a companion, so connection is present both in the garment’s seam and in the bond between people.

ALSO GROWS

veḥibbarta: You shall join or couple.

וְחִבַּרְתָּ

This same root names the joining of the tabernacle curtains in Exodus 26:6, where the connected pieces become one covering.

ḥāver: Companion or associate.

חָבֵר

A companion is one joined with another; the root’s idea of connection extends from the garment’s seam to human relationship.

A sacred whole takes shape through deliberate joining at its meeting points.

And you shall make fifty taches of gold, and join the curtains together with the taches; and it shall be one dwelling.
Exodus 26:6 · SDVJoined curtains become one tabernacle, just as the ephod’s rings are positioned at its joining.

Psalm 133:1 · SDVThe verse presents shared life as a wholeness formed through people dwelling together.

Ephesians 2:21 · SDVThe temple grows as its parts are fitted together into one structure.
And you shall make fifty taches of gold, and join the curtains together with the taches; and it shall be one dwelling.
Exodus 26:6 · SDV

“Couple” in Exodus 26:6 comes from ⁨חָבַר⁩ (ḥābar), the same root behind “coupling” here. The earlier verse makes the connection explicit: joined pieces become one dwelling.
