This verse in the King James

King James wording
And thus shalt thou do unto Aaron, and to his sons, according to all things which I have commanded thee: seven days shalt thou consecrate them.

What the KJV calls consecration is literally a seven-day filling of their hands.

Here, being set apart takes the shape of seven days of filling: the hands receive what the work requires. The appointment is carried out according to what is commanded, and its completion unfolds over time.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the idea that a title alone makes someone ready: the hands are filled through a sustained process.

תְּמַלֵּא

temalle

GROWS FROM

מלא

To fill, make full.

“fill their hands” in this verse is temalle. The Hebrew says, literally, “seven days you shall fill their hand.” The word translated “consecrate” holds a concrete picture of hands being filled for service, and the seven days make that preparation a process.

ALSO GROWS

male: To be full; full.

מָלֵא

This branch keeps the sense of fullness visible: the hands are being made ready by receiving what they need.

millu'im: Fillings; also the ordination offerings.

מִלֻּאִים

The same root names the offerings associated with the priests’ installation, linking their consecration to the filling that equips them.

Setting apart is enacted through filling for the work a person is given.

And you will clothe Aaron your brother with them, and his sons with him. You will anoint them, and fill their hands, and set them apart, so that they may serve me as priests.
Exodus 28:41 · SDVThe same filling-of-the-hands act appears here as “consecrate,” showing that setting apart includes preparation for service.
And I have filled him with the breath of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of work.
Exodus 31:3 · SDVThe filling that prepares hands for service also appears as wisdom and skill filling a person for skilled work.
And to know the love of the Anointed One, which is thrown beyond knowing, that you might be filled to all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:19 · SDVThe pattern widens from hands prepared for a particular service to a person filled with divine fullness.
And you will clothe Aaron your brother with them, and his sons with him. You will anoint them, and fill their hands, and set them apart, so that they may serve me as priests.
Exodus 28:41 · SDV

The Hebrew uses the same “fill their hand” language here that Exodus 29:35 compresses into “consecrate.” Read together, the verses reveal consecration as hands being filled and prepared for the work they are given.
