King James wording
King James Version
And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory.THE KEY
The meeting is appointed, and the place is set apart by the weight of God’s presence.
THE MEANING
God meets Israel at the appointed place, and the tabernacle is set apart by God’s weight. The verse speaks to you now of sacredness as something given in encounter: the place is marked by the presence that meets there.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the idea that a place is set apart by human designation alone: here its set-apartness comes from God’s presence and weight.
THE ROOT
וְנֹעַדְתִּי
wə-noʿadtî
GROWS FROM
יעד
y-ʿ-d
To appoint or designate; to meet at an appointed place or time.
“meet” in this verse is wə-noʿadtî. The word for meeting carries the sense of an appointment: this encounter has a place and purpose. English can make it sound like a chance meeting, while the Hebrew connects it to what is appointed.
ALSO GROWS
mo'ed: An appointed time, meeting, or place.
מוֹעֵד
It shares the root’s sense of an encounter set for a particular time or place.
ya'ad: To appoint or designate.
יָעַד
It makes the appointment within “I will meet” audible: the meeting is set in place.
בִּכְבֹדִי
bikəvōdî
GROWS FROM
כבד
k-b-d
To be heavy or weighty.
The word carries the sense of weight and honor beneath its familiar rendering as “glory.” The tabernacle is set apart through the weight of God’s presence there.
ALSO GROWS
kaved: Heavy or weighty.
כָּבֵד
It reveals the concrete sense within “my glory”: something of weight is present.
kibbed: To honor or accord weight.
כִּבֵּד
It shows how weight extends into honor, joining God’s presence with the reverence it carries.
וְנִקְדַּשׁ
wə-niqdash
GROWS FROM
קדש
q-d-sh
To set apart as sacred.
The word names the tabernacle as set apart, and the verse directly links that condition to God’s weight. The place is marked by the presence that meets there.
ALSO GROWS
qadosh: Set apart; sacred.
קָדוֹשׁ
It shares the same root and names the quality the tabernacle receives.
miqdash: Sanctuary; a set-apart place.
מִקְדָּשׁ
It shows the root embodied in a place devoted to encounter.
THE PATTERN
A space becomes set apart when divine presence fills it with weight.
And the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the weight of the LORD filled the dwelling. So that the priests could not stand to serve because of the cloud, for the weight of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD.And the word became flesh and pitched a tent among us, and we beheld his weight, the weight as of the only-born from the Father, full of favor and truth.THE THREAD
And there I meet with you, and I speak with you from above the covering, from between the two cherubim that are upon the ark of the witness, all that I command you to the children of Israel.Exodus 25:22 uses the same ya’ad meeting word: the tabernacle is named as a place of appointed encounter. Exodus 29:43 extends that meeting to Israel and says God’s weight sets the place apart.
