Selah Decoded Version The Selah Decoded Version renders what the Hebrew and Greek words meant to the people who first heard them.

This verse in the King James

King James wording
And thou shalt bring in the table, and set in order the things that are to be set in order upon it; and thou shalt bring in the candlestick, and light the lamps thereof.

The Hebrew says, literally, “arrange its arrangement,” then describes the lamps as “made to rise”, readiness and illumination are built from ordered placement.

The verse speaks now of readiness as a union of placement and perception: provision has a place, and the lamps are raised into use. The ordered table and kindled light stand together, so nourishment and seeing belong to the same prepared space.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the idea that illumination is separate from material care: here, the lamps rise within a space where provision is already arranged.

וְעָרַכְתָּ אֶת־עֶרְכוֹ

ve'arakh-ta et-erkho

GROWS FROM

ערך

To arrange, set in order, or lay out in an array.

“arrange upon it” in this verse is ve'arakh-ta et-erkho. The command uses the verb and its object from the same root, literally, “arrange its arrangement.” The echo makes the ordered layout itself part of the work, rather than a detail hidden inside a general instruction.

ALSO GROWS

ʿerekh: An arrangement, order, or row.

עֶרֶךְ

The noun echoes the verb in this verse: it is an “arrange its arrangement” construction.

maʿarakhah: An array, formation, or ordered arrangement.

מַעֲרָכָה

This branch shows how the root can describe a structured layout, not just loose placement.

וְהַעֲלֵיתָ

veha'alita

GROWS FROM

עלה

To rise or go up; in this form, to cause something to rise or bring it up.

“cause its lamps to rise” in this verse is veha'alita. The verb translated “light” literally means “cause to ascend.” Illumination is expressed as raising the lamps, adding upward movement to the room’s readiness.

ALSO GROWS

ʿōlah: A burnt offering, literally something that rises.

עֹלָה

The same root carries the sense of rising in the name of the offering.

maʿalah: An ascent or upward step.

מַעֲלָה

This noun preserves the root’s upward movement, echoing the raising of the lamps.

What sustains and illuminates becomes usable when it is given a fitting place.

And you shall set them in two rows, six to a row, upon the pure table before the LORD.
Leviticus 24:6 · SDVThe bread is arranged in rows on the table, making provision visible as a deliberate layout.
Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105 · SDVLight makes the path perceptible, joining illumination with the way a person moves.
Let all things become well shaped, and in rank.
1 Corinthians 14:40 · SDVThe same pattern reaches shared life: what is done together takes shape through order.
And you shall set them in two rows, six to a row, upon the pure table before the LORD.
Leviticus 24:6 · SDV

The table in Exodus is given an arrangement through the root ⁨ערך⁩ (ʿ-r-k), and Leviticus uses a noun from that same root for the bread’s ordered rows. The shared root connects the command to a concrete layout of provision before the LORD.
