This verse in the King James

King James wording
Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail.

The hail does not have to stop everywhere for Goshen to be spared: the verse places a boundary inside the storm.

You can see two realities at once: disaster can surround a place without reaching every place. Here, the hail is real, and so is the space where it does not fall; the verse leaves that boundary’s mechanism unstated.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie that a surrounding disaster must reach every place equally.

בְּנֵי

benei

GROWS FROM

בנה

b-n-h

Build, establish; the word for “son” is commonly connected with building a family line.

The word translated “children” carries an echo of building: a people is a lineage formed across generations. The verse locates the spared place among an established people, while leaving unexplained how the boundary holds.

ALSO GROWS

ben: Son, child

בֵּן

This is the singular behind benei, naming the people as descendants.

banah: Build

בָּנָה

Its shared root links descendants with the building of a family line.

mivneh: Structure, building

מִבְנֶה

This related word extends the root’s image from a lineage to something formed into a structure.

Protection appears as a bounded exception: danger is present, yet its reach stops at a named place.

And I will part the land of Goshen in that day, where my people settle, that no mingled swarm shall be there; so that you may perceive that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth.
Exodus 8:22 · SDVGoshen is named again as a place set apart from a plague, making the boundary in this verse part of a repeated pattern.
No one saw his brother, and no one rose from beneath him for three days. But all the children of Israel had light where they settled.
Exodus 10:23 · SDVDarkness covers one space while light remains in the dwellings of the children of Israel.
A thousand fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it does not draw near to you.
Psalm 91:7 · SDVThe verse places a person within reach of widespread danger while describing that danger as bounded.
And I will part the land of Goshen in that day, where my people settle, that no mingled swarm shall be there; so that you may perceive that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth.
Exodus 8:22 · SDV

Goshen is explicitly named as a place set apart from a plague, so the absence of hail here belongs to a repeated pattern of separation. The earlier verse also says the boundary makes the LORD’s presence known in the earth.
