This verse in the King James

King James wording
As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them four.

The wheel is dreadful for its height, but eyes fill its whole rim, making seeing part of its entire circumference.

The wheels rise to a height that overwhelms the eye, and their rims carry eyes all around. No side of the image is blank: movement and seeing occupy the same circumference.

עֵינַיִם

ʿênayim

GROWS FROM

עין

ʿ-y-n

Eye; the same Hebrew word also names a spring or source.

Hebrew holds seeing and a welling source in the same word. With eyes covering the whole rim, sight is not confined to one direction; it surrounds the moving form.

ALSO GROWS

ʿayin: Eye

עַיִן

This is the singular form behind the verse’s many eyes.

maʿyan: Spring, fountain

מַעְיָן

This related word names a source that wells up, echoing how perception fills the wheel’s circuit.

סָבִיב

sāvîv

GROWS FROM

סבב

s-b-b

To turn, go around, or surround.

“round about” in this verse is sāvîv. The Hebrew word carries the sense of a circuit, not simply a location nearby. The eyes extend around the rim, so the wheel’s seeing follows its whole circumference.

ALSO GROWS

sāvav: To turn or go around

סָבַב

The verb preserves the turning motion present in the wheel’s encircling line of eyes.

sevivah: Surroundings, environment

סְבִיבָה

This branch names what is around a thing, the field enclosed by the eyes on the rim.

When eyes cover a whole field, scripture pictures perception with no unobserved side.

And their whole flesh, and their backs, and their hands, and their wings, and the wheels, were full of eyes all around, even the wheels that the four had.
Ezekiel 10:12 · SDVEyes fill the wheels and the whole moving form around them, extending sight across every surface.
The eyes of the LORD are in every place, watching the harm and the good.
Proverbs 15:3 · SDVThe image expands from a ring covered in eyes to sight present throughout every place.
Before the throne is a sea of glass, like crystal, and in the midst of the throne and around the throne are four living creatures, full of eyes before and behind.
Revelation 4:6 · SDVEyes before and behind surround the living forms, leaving no direction outside their vision.
And their whole flesh, and their backs, and their hands, and their wings, and the wheels, were full of eyes all around, even the wheels that the four had.
Ezekiel 10:12 · SDV

This vision extends the eyes from the wheels to the whole form: body, backs, hands, and wings. The eyes belong to the entire moving structure, not to one marked ring.
