King James wording
King James Version
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,THE KEY
The word does not wait for you to find it; it arrives as an address.
THE MEANING
Before the message is named, the LORD’s word has already come near as speech addressed to you. The verse places you at the threshold between its arrival and its disclosure, where the word itself is already an encounter.
THE ROOT
דְּבַר
davar
GROWS FROM
דבר
To speak; a word, matter, or thing.
Hebrew uses davar for both a spoken word and a matter or thing. The word that comes to you is not detached information: its arrival is an event of address.
ALSO GROWS
dibber: spoke
דִּבֵּר
This verb shows the speech held in davar: the LORD’s word comes with something to say.
medabber: speaking; one who speaks
מְדַבֵּר
This speaking form echoes the verse’s movement from the word’s arrival to its voiced message.
לֵאמֹר
lemor
GROWS FROM
אמר
To say or utter.
“saying” in this verse is lemor. The verse uses two speech markers: a davar comes, then it is lemor, “to say.” The repetition makes the word’s arrival inseparable from the act of speaking.
ALSO GROWS
amar: to say; he said
אָמַר
This is the verb-root behind the verse’s introduction to the message.
imrah: utterance; saying
אִמְרָה
This noun shows the same root taking shape as spoken expression.
THE PATTERN
The word of God comes as active address, bringing its force into the place it reaches.
After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, Do not fear, Abram. I am your shield, and your very great wages.By the word of the LORD the heavens are made, and all their host by the breath of his mouth. For the word of God is living and working, and sharper than any two-edged sword, reaching through even to the dividing of living soul and breath, of joints and marrow, and it separates the inward movements and thoughts of the heart.THE THREAD
By the word of the LORD the heavens are made, and all their host by the breath of his mouth. The same Hebrew word, davar (דָּבָר), means “word” and “matter” or “thing.” Here it arrives as address; in the Psalm, it is the word through which the heavens are made, joining speech with what takes shape.
