This verse in the King James

King James wording
As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so shall ye be melted in the midst thereof; and ye shall know that I the LORD have poured out my fury upon you.

Silver and the people receive the same Hebrew verb, ⁨נָתַךְ⁩ (nātakh), to melt or pour, so judgment is pictured as a loss of form inside the furnace.

The verse places the reader inside the furnace: the same melting that overtakes silver overtakes the people, while the LORD names himself as the one pouring out fury. Knowing arrives in the middle of exposure to that force, not from detached observation.

יִנָּתֵךְ

yinnāṯēḵ

GROWS FROM

נתך

⁨נָתַךְ⁩ (nātakh) means to pour or run down; in a molten-metal context, to melt.

English says both silver and the people are melted, but Hebrew repeats one verb from ⁨נתך⁩, whose range includes pouring or running down. The same verb makes the people the material inside the furnace, losing form alongside the silver.

ALSO GROWS

yinnāṯēḵ: is melted, is poured

יִנָּתֵךְ

The silver takes this form of the verb, pictured as flowing into a changed state.

wənittaḵtem: and you shall be melted, poured

וְנִתַּכְתֶּם

The same root describes the people, binding their fate to the silver in the furnace.

שָׁפַכְתִּי

shāfaḵtî

GROWS FROM

שפך

⁨שָׁפַךְ⁩ (shāfaḵ) means to pour out or spill.

The verb gives the fury a liquid action: it is poured out upon the people after they have been pictured as melting. The image joins the outpouring to the loss of form inside the furnace.

ALSO GROWS

shāfaḵtî: I poured out

שָׁפַכְתִּי

This is the verse’s verb for the LORD’s action, with fury as what is poured.

shefikhah: pouring, outpouring

שְׁפִיכָה

This noun preserves the root’s sense of an outflow, illuminating the force of the verse’s image.

A furnace makes the condition of what enters it impossible to conceal.

And he will sit as the refiner and cleanser of silver, and he will cleanse the sons of Levi, and strain them like gold and silver, and they will bring near to the LORD an offering in alignment.
Malachi 3:3 · SDVThe refiner’s furnace brings silver and the people within it to a decisive condition.
Each one's work will be made visible, for the day will show it, because it is uncovered in fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is.
1 Corinthians 3:13 · SDVFire makes the nature of each person’s work visible.
so that the proving of your trust, far costlier than gold that perishes though it is tested through fire, may be found unto praise and weight and honor at the unveiling of Jesus the Anointed One.
1 Peter 1:7 · SDVThe image of precious metal tested by fire shows a hidden quality becoming evident through exposure.
And I will no longer hide my face from them, for I have poured out my breath upon the house of Israel, says the Lord GOD.
Ezekiel 39:29 · SDV

Ezekiel uses the same root, ⁨שפך⁩ (shāfaḵ, to pour out), here for fury and there for ⁨רוּחַ⁩ (ruach, breath). The object changes, while the image of an outpouring remains.
