King James wording
King James Version
The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,THE KEY
Hebrew *davar* can mean both “word” and “matter,” so the word that arrives carries substance into life.
THE MEANING
The LORD’s word reaches you as an arrival and opens into speech. *Davar* can also mean a matter or thing, binding what is spoken to the substance of the life you are living now.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The lie that divine speech is only inert information dissolves here: the word arrives and speaks.
THE ROOT
דָּבָר
dāḇār
GROWS FROM
דבר
To speak; as a noun, speech, matter, affair, or thing.
English “word” can sound like a detachable sentence. Hebrew *davar* can name both speech and the matter or affair itself, so the arriving word meets reality as more than information about it.
ALSO GROWS
dāḇār: A word, matter, affair, or thing.
דָּבָר
The same word can name both what is spoken and the matter being addressed.
dibber: He spoke; uttered.
דִּבֵּר
This verbal branch shows the word in motion: it arrives to be spoken.
THE PATTERN
Divine speech arrives in human life and becomes address, healing, or embodied presence.
After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, Do not fear, Abram. I am your shield, and your very great wages. He sends his word and heals them, and slips them free from their pits. And the word became flesh and pitched a tent among us, and we beheld his weight, the weight as of the only-born from the Father, full of favor and truth.THE THREAD
And he bent you low, and made you hunger, and fed you with manna, which you had never perceived, nor had your fathers, so that he might make you perceive that humankind does not live by bread alone, but by every word that goes out from the mouth of the LORD does humankind live. The Hebrew word translated “word” here is *davar*, the same word at Ezekiel 30:1. Deuteronomy makes its life-bearing dimension plain: the word that comes is not only heard; it sustains life.
