This verse in the King James

King James wording
Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it?

Israel’s “safely” is ⁨בֶּטַח⁩ (betach), a word of security and confidence, and Gog sees that very security.

Your settled life can be real and still be visible to a threat. Gog recognizes Israel’s secure dwelling; the verse holds safety and exposure together as the invasion approaches.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The belief that being secure means being unseen or beyond danger.

לָבֶטַח

lāveṭaḥ

GROWS FROM

בטח

b-ṭ-ḥ

To trust, feel secure, or be confident.

“settles in trust” in this verse is lāveṭaḥ. The word for Israel dwelling “safely” shares its root with the verb “to trust.” Security here carries the sense of confidence and settled reliance, yet the verse makes that condition visible to Gog.

ALSO GROWS

bāṭaḥ: To trust, rely on, or feel secure.

בָּטַח

The verb shows the confidence carried within the word translated “safely.”

mivṭāḥ: A refuge or source of confidence.

מִבְטָח

This branch links security with a place or condition in which one can rely and rest.

תֵּדָע

tēdaʿ

GROWS FROM

ידע

y-d-ʿ

To know or perceive through recognition and encounter.

“perceive it” in this verse is tēdaʿ. Gog’s knowing is more than receiving a report: the question presents him as recognizing Israel’s secure condition. The threat sees the reality of their dwelling clearly.

ALSO GROWS

yādaʿ: To know or perceive.

יָדַע

This verb is the root of Gog’s recognition in the verse.

daʿat: Knowledge or perception.

דַּעַת

This noun shows the same root carrying knowing as an apprehended reality.

A people’s visible security does not make them invisible to an approaching threat.

And you will say, I will go up to the land of open villages; I will go to the still ones, those who settle in trust, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates.
Ezekiel 38:11 · SDVGog names Israel’s rest and lack of defenses as the condition he intends to attack.
Rise, go up to the still nation, that settles in its leaning, declares the LORD, which have neither doors nor bolts, which sit alone.
Jeremiah 49:31 · SDVThe nation’s unguarded ease is visible to the power being sent against it.
When they say, "Wholeness and firm footing," then sudden ruin stands over them, like labor pains upon a woman carrying a child in her womb, and they will not escape.
1 Thessalonians 5:3 · SDVThe claim of safety stands beside sudden destruction, showing that felt security does not erase an approaching danger.
And I will cut for them a covenant of wholeness, and I will stop the harmful beasts from the land. They will dwell in the wilderness leaning their full weight, and sleep in the forests.
Ezekiel 34:25 · SDV

The same betach word describes dwelling safely in both verses. In Ezekiel 34:25, that security accompanies peace and protection; here, the word’s promise of security remains real even as Gog sees it and approaches.
