This verse in the King James

King James wording
And Pathrusim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came Philistim,) and Caphtorim.

The verse gives the Philistines an origin before it gives them a label: they are a people who came out from another people.

These names remain visible as branches: peoples emerge from earlier families and movements. No people appears from nowhere; each name carries a route of becoming beneath the label. The verse keeps that origin inside the identity.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie that a people is self-originating and sealed off from every other line dissolves here: the Philistines are explicitly said to come out from another people.

יָצְאוּ

yāṣəʾū

GROWS FROM

יצא

To go out, come forth, or emerge.

“from whom went out Philistim” in this verse is yāṣəʾū. The Hebrew word carries the movement of going out from a source: the Philistines emerge from a prior people. English “came” can sound like simple arrival, while the root holds the departure and origin within the same motion.

ALSO GROWS

yatsa: To go out or come forth.

יָצָא

This is the root’s basic movement, the emergence named in the verse.

hotsi: To bring out or lead forth.

הוֹצִיא

This causative form shows how the same root can describe a people being brought out of a place.

motsa: A going forth, departure, or origin.

מוֹצָא

This branch makes explicit the link between coming out and the source from which a people emerges.

Peoples emerge through lineages and movement, while their identities retain traces of shared beginnings.

These are the families of the sons of Noah, by their births, in their nations; and from these the nations were parted in the earth after the flood.
Genesis 10:32 · SDVThe nations appear as branches of families and generations, carrying their beginnings within their divisions.
Are you not to me as the children of the Cushites, O children of Israel? declares the LORD. Have I not brought up Israel from the land of Egypt, and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Arameans from Kir?
Amos 9:7 · SDVThe Philistines are again named through movement from a place, with their identity linked to where they came from.
And he made from one blood every nation of humankind to settle upon all the face of the earth, marking out their fitted seasons and setting the boundary stones of their dwelling.
Acts 17:26 · SDVThe many nations retain a shared human origin even as they inhabit different places and times.
I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Exodus 20:2 · SDV

Genesis uses the root ⁨יצא⁩ (yatsa, to go out or come forth) for the Philistines’ emergence from a lineage; Exodus uses its causative form for Israel being brought out of Egypt, the house of bondage. The same root holds origin and release together as movements out from a source.
