King James wording
King James Version
And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.THE KEY
The blessing in this verse carries the shape of a bent knee: a whole life is received, not conquered.
THE MEANING
Your years do not put you outside the reach of blessing: here, the LORD’s blessing takes in the whole field of life. Avraham (אַבְרָהָם, “father of a multitude”) carries a name whose reach exceeds one person, so blessing received by one life opens outward through it. Age and abundance stand together.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the belief that age leaves only decline, with no room for a life to be full or fruitful.
THE ROOT
בֵּרַךְ
berakh
GROWS FROM
ברך
To bless; the same Hebrew root also names the knee.
“blessed” in this verse is berakh. The same root names berekh, “knee,” placing blessing beside the posture of bending. The word-shape lets blessing appear as something received across a whole life, not a prize seized by strength.
ALSO GROWS
berekh: knee
בֶּרֶךְ
The shared root places blessing beside the body’s bent posture, giving the verse’s abundance a shape of reception.
berakhah: blessing
בְּרָכָה
This noun carries the same root into the enduring gift that encompasses Abraham “in all things.”
THE PATTERN
Blessing holds a life through its changing seasons and keeps its fruit moving outward.
And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great, and be a blessing. They still bear fruit in gray hair; they are fat and green.Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus the Anointed One, who has blessed us with every blessing of breath in the heavenly places, in the Anointed One.THE THREAD
And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great, and be a blessing.Genesis 12:2 uses the same ברך (barak, “bless”) root when the LORD blesses Abraham and says Abraham will become a blessing. Here, receiving and becoming belong to one continuous movement across a long life.
