King James wording
King James Version
And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD thy God brought it to me.THE KEY
What sounds like an answer about speed is also a claim that God caused the encounter, and the disguise keeps that claim under pressure.
THE MEANING
Speed is made to sound like a sign: Jacob says the LORD Isaac worships caused the encounter. Yet this explanation sits inside a disguised exchange, so God’s name appears as a claim that cannot verify itself. The verse holds providence and manipulation in the same frame without collapsing one into the other.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
A quick result, even with God’s name attached to it, does not prove that the means behind it are truthful.
THE ROOT
הִקְרָה
hiqrah
GROWS FROM
ק־ר־ה
q-r-h
to meet, happen, or befall
“brought it to meet me” in this verse is hiqrah. The Hebrew verb presents the goats as something God caused to happen before Isaac, not merely as something delivered. This root also gives words for an occurrence or happening, so Jacob’s answer frames the speed as providential while the disguise leaves that claim in tension.
ALSO GROWS
qarah: to happen, befall, or encounter
קָרָה
Its range makes the arrival sound like an encounter arranged to occur before someone, which gives Jacob’s answer its force.
miqreh: an occurrence or happening
מִקְרֶה
This related word keeps the event itself in view: calling it something God caused does not, by itself, settle what human actions produced it.
THE PATTERN
An outcome can carry divine purpose while human agency and its intent remain visible.
As for you, you planned evil against me, but God planned it for good, to make it as it is this day, to keep a great people alive. This one, handed over by the marked-out counsel and foreknowing of God, you nailed to the cross by the hands of the unbounded, and you killed him.THE THREAD
And he said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray you, cause it to meet me this day, and do faithful love to my master Abraham. The servant’s prayer uses the same ק־ר־ה root: he asks God to cause an encounter before him. That makes Jacob’s sentence sound like a prayer answered, while the disguise keeps the human staging of this encounter in view.
