King James wording
King James Version
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.THE KEY
Joy does not wait for circumstances to widen; it springs from the God whose work is to bring a person out into spaciousness.
THE MEANING
Even when signs of provision disappear, joy can still take root in the LORD; its source is not the harvest but the God who delivers. “My salvation” names that deliverance personally, as the ground of joy now.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The belief that joy must wait until life improves gives way: this verse locates joy in the Deliverer even while circumstances remain barren.
THE ROOT
יִשְׁעִי
yishʿi
GROWS FROM
ישע
yasha
To deliver, rescue, bring out.
“My salvation” is יִשְׁעִי, yishʿi, “my deliverance,” from יָשַׁע, yasha, “to deliver.” The same root names both deliverance and the one who delivers: joy rests in God’s movement from constriction into spaciousness, even before circumstances change.
ALSO GROWS
yeshuʿah: Rescue; being brought out.
יְשׁוּעָה
It shares the verse’s root and makes clear that the joy is grounded in deliverance.
moshiaʿ: One who rescues or brings out.
מוֹשִׁיעַ
This branch points from the gift of deliverance to the one who delivers, the personal source of the speaker’s joy.
THE PATTERN
Joy can remain rooted in God when circumstances fail because it springs from deliverance rather than visible provision.
And my living soul leaps in the LORD; it rejoices in his deliverance.Look, God is my deliverance. I will lean my full weight and not tremble, for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song, and he has become my deliverance. And not only that, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One, by whom we have now taken hold of the exchange.THE THREAD
Look, God is my deliverance. I will lean my full weight and not tremble, for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song, and he has become my deliverance.“My salvation” in Isaiah comes from the same יָשַׁע (yasha), “deliver,” root as Habakkuk’s “my deliverance.” Isaiah opens the joy in Habakkuk as resting in the Deliverer himself, even while circumstances remain unchanged.
