King James wording
King James Version
And again the word of the LORD came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying,THE KEY
The word of the LORD is living address: it comes again, rather than being exhausted by its last arrival.
THE MEANING
The LORD’s word reaches you again as a renewed address; its arrival is not exhausted by what you have already heard. It meets a person in a particular moment, making divine speech an encounter, not merely an idea held at a distance.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The belief that one encounter exhausts what can be spoken is undone by the verse’s “again.”
THE ROOT
דָּבָר
dāḇār
GROWS FROM
דבר
d-b-r
To speak, utter; the noun can mean a word, matter, or affair.
The root holds speech and substance together: a “word” can be both what is spoken and the matter it carries. Here, that word reaches Haggai again as a renewed address, not merely as a sound or remembered message.
ALSO GROWS
dibbēr: He spoke; to speak.
דִּבֵּר
The verbal branch reveals the speaking within the “word”: the message is an act of address.
dāḇār: Word, matter, affair.
דָּבָר
The noun carries the substance spoken, joining the message to the matter it brings into view.
THE PATTERN
The LORD’s word reaches people as a renewed, present address rather than remaining an abstraction.
Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,The word of the LORD came, indeed came, to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar, and the hand of the LORD was there upon him. While Peter was still speaking these words, the Set-Apart Breath fell upon all who heard the word.THE THREAD
By the word of the LORD the heavens are made, and all their host by the breath of his mouth. The Hebrew word for “word” is דָּבָר (dāḇār), from the same root as in Haggai. Psalm 33 shows that this word is active speech, carrying creative force; Haggai’s repeated address belongs to that same living movement.
