King James wording
King James Version
Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.THE KEY
The verse lets the same God be hidden from view and still be your deliverer.
THE MEANING
The one you cannot fully see is still named as the one who brings you out. Hiddenness is left unexplained, and deliverance remains real.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It loosens the belief that a hidden God must be an absent God.
THE ROOT
מִסְתַּתֵּר
mistattēr
GROWS FROM
סתר
satar
to hide or conceal
“hides yourself” in this verse is mistattēr. The verse does not collapse concealment into abandonment: it names God as hidden while still addressing him as deliverer. This root family describes what is out of sight, leaving the tension present rather than explaining it away.
ALSO GROWS
sēter: hiding place, secret
סֵתֶר
It shows concealment as a condition of being unseen, not proof that nothing is there.
mistār: hiding place, concealment
מִסְתָּר
The related noun makes the hiddenness in the verse feel like a real, named condition.
מוֹשִׁיעַ
môšîaʿ
GROWS FROM
ישע
yashaʿ
to deliver, bring out from constriction into spaciousness
“Deliverer” in this verse is môšîaʿ. The Hebrew names God as the one effecting deliverance, not merely as a title. Rescue can be real while the rescuer remains concealed: the movement toward spaciousness does not depend on full visibility.
ALSO GROWS
yeshuʿah: deliverance, rescue
יְשׁוּעָה
The related noun names the movement that the verse holds alongside hiddenness.
hôšîaʿ: he delivered, brought out
הוֹשִׁיעַ
This verbal form makes deliverance an action, so the hidden God is still named through what he does.
THE PATTERN
Divine hiddenness and deliverance can coexist: what is unseen can still be sought and made known.
And I will wait for the LORD, who hides his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.The LORD makes his deliverance known. He uncovers his alignment before the eyes of the nations. No one has ever seen God. The only-born God, who is at the breast of the Father, has led him out.THE THREAD
And I will wait for the LORD, who hides his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.“Hideth” comes from the same Hebrew root, סתר (satar), as “hidest thyself” here. The verse keeps seeking alive inside hiddenness: the one who is not seen is still the one looked for.
