This verse in the King James

King James wording
Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: and I will preserve thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;

The day of deliverance is when you are not only rescued, you are preserved as a covenant through which desolate inheritances return.

You are heard in a time of favor, and help arrives as deliverance. You are kept and given as a covenant for others; even what has become desolate opens again as an inheritance.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

This undoes the belief that a desolate inheritance has no future: the verse places preservation and the return of inheritance inside the same act of deliverance.

יְשׁוּעָה

yeshuah

GROWS FROM

ישע

y-sh-ʿ

To deliver, bring to safety; deliverance as movement out of constriction toward room to live.

English “salvation” can sound like a state, but ⁨יְשׁוּעָה⁩ (yeshuah, deliverance) is movement. The same root lives in Yeshua’s name: deliverance is not distant from the person who carries it.

ALSO GROWS

yasha: Deliver, bring out

יָשַׁע

The day called salvation is a day of being brought out, not merely given an abstract status.

Yeshua: Deliverance; the name Yeshua

יֵשׁוּעַ

The name and the verse’s word for salvation share the same root: deliverance is embodied in a name.

וְאֶצָּרְךָ

ve’etzarecha

GROWS FROM

נצר

n-ṣ-r

To guard, watch over, keep.

“guard” in this verse is ve’etzarecha. “Preserve” carries the sense of active keeping: you are watched over and held in place for what follows. The verse joins that keeping to being given as a covenant, so preservation carries you into a role that reaches others.

ALSO GROWS

natsar: Guard, keep

נָצַר

This is the root behind “preserve”; the word points to watchful keeping.

netser: Shoot, branch

נֵצֶר

The root also appears in the image of a shoot: what is kept can continue growing.

לְהַנְחִיל

lehanhil

GROWS FROM

נחל

n-ḥ-l

To inherit or give as an inheritance.

“hand down” in this verse is lehanhil. The verse doubles ⁨נחל⁩ (n-ḥ-l): the servant is to cause others to inherit ⁨נְחָלוֹת⁩ (neḥalot, inheritances). English separates the verb and noun, while the Hebrew repeats one root to bind the act of receiving to what is received, even when it lies desolate.

ALSO GROWS

naḥal: Inherit, receive as a possession

נָחַל

This verb names the return of a share that can be received.

naḥalah: Inheritance, possession

נַחֲלָה

This noun shares the root with “cause to inherit,” joining the act of receiving to the inheritance itself.

An appointed moment of favor turns being heard into deliverance, then makes preserved life the doorway to restored inheritance.

I, the LORD, have called you in alignment. I will take hold of your hand and guard you. I will set you as a covenant of the people, as a light to the nations.
Isaiah 42:6 · SDVBeing kept and being given as a covenant appear together, as in Isaiah 49:8.
You rise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to favor her; the appointed time has come.
Psalm 102:13 · SDVFavor arrives at an appointed time and begins the restoration of what has lain desolate.
For he says, "In a welcome time I have heard and answered you, and on the day of deliverance I have run to your cry. Behold, now is the welcome time. Behold, now is the day of deliverance."
2 Corinthians 6:2 · SDVThe verse makes the time of being heard and helped present: “now” is the day of deliverance.
I, the LORD, have called you in alignment. I will take hold of your hand and guard you. I will set you as a covenant of the people, as a light to the nations.
Isaiah 42:6 · SDV

Isaiah 42:6 joins the same two movements: the servant is kept, then given as a covenant for the people. Its “keep” shares the root ⁨נצר⁩ (natsar, guard or keep) with “preserve” here, linking watchful keeping to the covenant role.
