King James wording
King James Version
For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness.THE KEY
Restoration changes both what life is built from and the nature of the authority that governs it.
THE MEANING
This verse speaks to your present conditions as changeable: what is diminished can be replaced with something more valuable. It envisions those entrusted with oversight becoming wholeness, and those who press for what is owed becoming alignment.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the belief that what has been reduced must remain the measure of what can be built, or that authority can only keep extracting.
THE ROOT
נֹגְשַׂיִךְ
nogesayikh your exactors
GROWS FROM
נגשׂ
n-g-s
To press, drive, or exact.
“drivers” in this verse is nogesayikh your exactors. The word for “exactors” carries the force of pressing or driving. Here, the role associated with that pressure is recast as alignment, so extraction is not treated as the only possible form of authority.
ALSO GROWS
noges: Taskmaster; exactor.
נֹגֵשׂ
This noun names the person who presses others, making the verse’s transformation of authority concrete.
nagas: To exact or oppress by pressure.
נָגַשׂ
The verb exposes the force beneath “exactors”: authority that presses for what is owed.
שָׁלוֹם
shalom
GROWS FROM
שלם
sh-l-m
Wholeness, completeness, or being intact.
“set in wholeness” in this verse is shalom. The officers are made “peace”, wholeness, not merely given a calmer disposition. The verse places the quality of public oversight inside the restoration itself.
ALSO GROWS
shalem: Whole, complete, or intact.
שָׁלֵם
It makes clear that shalom names a condition of wholeness, the quality assigned to those who govern.
shillem: To repay or make good.
שִׁלֵּם
This branch connects wholeness with making good what is owed, a striking counterpoint to the exactors’ pressure.
צְדָקָה
tzedakah
GROWS FROM
צדק
ṣ-d-q
Alignment or rightness.
The word rendered “righteousness” carries the sense of alignment. Paired with wholeness, it describes a changed order in which authority is oriented rightly rather than organized around pressure.
ALSO GROWS
tzedek: Rightness; alignment.
צֶדֶק
This is the root’s core sense and clarifies the quality the verse assigns to those who exact.
tsaddiq: An aligned or righteous person.
צַדִּיק
This branch carries alignment into a person’s character, showing how the verse speaks of transformed agents as well as transformed materials.
THE PATTERN
Restoration replaces diminished conditions and turns authority from pressure toward wholeness and alignment.
To set for those who mourn in Zion, to give them a headdress in place of ash, the oil of leaping for mourning, the garment of praise in place of a dimmed breath; that they might be called oaks of alignment, the planting of the LORD, that he might be adorned. He redeems their living soul from deceit and violence, and their blood is weighty in his eyes.It will not be so among you. But whoever wants to be great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever wants to be first among you, let him be your servant.THE THREAD
And the LORD said, I have surely seen the bending low of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their drivers. For I know their pains.“Taskmasters” and “exactors” come from the same Hebrew root for pressing or exacting. Exodus names the pressure and its cries; Isaiah shows that the order marked by that pressure can be remade as wholeness and alignment.
