What Does Isaiah 66:19 Mean?
I will place a sign among them, and I will send those who slip free of them to the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, who draw the bow, to Tubal and Javan, to the far coastlands that have not heard my name nor seen my weight. They will declare my weight among the nations.

King James wording
King James Version
And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles.THE KEY
The sign marks survivors as carriers of God’s weight into places that have never perceived it.
THE MEANING
A sign marks those who have come through escape, and they are sent beyond familiar borders to nations that have neither heard the LORD’s renown nor seen his weight. They become voices through which what was unseen is declared. Survival opens outward into witness.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The lie that escape is the end of deliverance: here, those who get out are sent, and what the nations have not seen is declared among them.
THE ROOT
כְּבוֹדִי
kevodi
GROWS FROM
כבד
k-b-d
To be heavy or weighty.
The Hebrew word rendered “glory” carries the sense of weight. The nations have not seen this weight, yet the survivors’ declaration makes it known among them.
ALSO GROWS
kaved: Heavy, weighty.
כָּבֵד
This branch makes the hidden sense of “glory” concrete: what is declared has weight.
kibbed: To honor, to make weighty.
כִּבֵּד
To declare the LORD’s glory is to make his weight known where it has not yet been seen.
וְשִׁלַּחְתִּי
veshillachti
GROWS FROM
שלח
sh-l-ḥ
To send out, release, or let go.
“send” in this verse is veshillachti. The sending follows escape: those who get out are sent outward as witnesses. The root holds sending and release together, so the survivors’ deliverance opens a path into the nations.
ALSO GROWS
shaluach: Sent, dispatched.
שָׁלוּחַ
The survivors are not only those who escape; they become the ones sent beyond their borders.
shilleach: To send away, release.
שִׁלֵּחַ
This branch echoes the movement from getting free to being sent forth.
THE PATTERN
What God makes visible among a people is carried by witnesses beyond their borders.
Recount his weight among the nations; his wonders among all peoples. The LORD has bared his set-apart arm before the eyes of all the nations, and all the edges of the earth shall see the deliverance of our God.But you will take hold of power when the Set-Apart Breath comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and to the farthest edge of the ground.THE THREAD
Rise, shine, for your light has come, and the weight of the LORD has risen upon you.Isaiah 60:1 uses the same Hebrew word כָּבוֹד (kavod), meaning “glory” or “weight.” There the weight rises upon a person; here it is declared among nations that have not yet seen it.
