This verse in the King James

King James wording
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah the second time, while he was yet shut up in the court of the prison, saying,

The word reaches Jeremiah without first opening the prison.

The word of the LORD reaches Jeremiah while he remains confined; the address comes inside the confinement, not after it ends. The verse holds both realities together: the boundary remains, and the word arrives again.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that being trapped means being unreachable, or that the word can come only after circumstances open.

דְּבַר

dᵊvar

GROWS FROM

ד־ב־ר

To speak; a word, matter, or affair.

In Hebrew, dābār can name both speech and a matter at hand. So the arriving word is more than information: it becomes the matter present to Jeremiah inside the confinement that remains.

ALSO GROWS

dibbēr: Speak, declare.

דִּבֵּר

The word that reaches Jeremiah is an address directed to him, not merely a written object.

dābār: Word, matter, affair.

דָּבָר

The shared word-and-matter sense lets the divine address enter Jeremiah’s concrete situation.

עָצוּר

ʿāṣūr

GROWS FROM

ע־צ־ר

To restrain, hold back, or stop.

“held back” in this verse is ʿāṣūr. The Hebrew describes Jeremiah as restrained, keeping the force of confinement in view. The word arrives within that limit, not after it disappears.

ALSO GROWS

ʿāṣar: Restrain, hold back, stop.

עָצַר

This verbal root pictures the force holding Jeremiah within limits.

ʿāṣūr: Restrained, confined.

עָצוּר

This form names Jeremiah’s state as the word reaches him.

God’s word reaches human need and carries its purpose even where circumstances impose limits.

He sends his word and heals them, and slips them free from their pits.
Psalm 107:20 · SDVThe word reaches people in distress and brings healing and deliverance into their need.
So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth. It shall not return to me empty, but shall do what I delight in, and shall break through in the thing to which I sent it.
Isaiah 55:11 · SDVThe word goes forth and accomplishes its purpose, regardless of the limits around its hearers.
In this I bear ill, even unto bonds, as one who works ill; but the word of God is not bound.
2 Timothy 2:9 · SDVThe speaker’s bonds do not bind the word of God.
Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his nature. But his word was in my heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it in, and I could not.
Jeremiah 20:9 · SDV

Both verses use ⁨דָּבָר⁩ (dābār), “word” or “matter.” Here Jeremiah is confined as the word reaches him; there, the word is like fire shut within him, the same root turns the image of enclosure around.
