This verse in the King James

King James wording
At that time, saith the LORD, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves:

When the bones are dragged into daylight, kingship, priesthood, prophecy, and citizenship are all stripped down to the same exposed human frame.

Every public identity stands beneath the same exposure: king, prince, priest, prophet, inhabitant. The bodies are not left in the privacy of their graves; their bones are brought into the open. No office makes the grave an untouchable hiding place.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie is that rank, sacred office, or reputation can keep what is buried permanently hidden.

עַצְמוֹת

ʿatsamot

GROWS FROM

עצם

Bone or bodily substance; the related verbal sense is to be strong or mighty.

“bones” in this verse is ʿatsamot. The Hebrew word for “bone,” ⁨עֶצֶם⁩ (ʿetsem), can also mean substance or self. English hears only remains; the Hebrew keeps the body’s underlying substance in view as every title gives way to the same exposed human frame.

ALSO GROWS

ʿetsem: Bone; substance or self.

עֶצֶם

The word can name both a bone and the underlying substance or self, bringing the body’s enduring frame into focus beneath each person’s title.

ʿatsam: To be strong, mighty, or numerous.

עָצַם

This related verbal sense carries strength and might; here, even the body’s durable frame is exposed and removed from the grave.

What is buried is not beyond reach; graves can open and yield what they contain.

Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD, Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the ground of Israel.
Ezekiel 37:12 · SDVThe grave opens, and those within it are brought out into the open.
The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the set-apart ones who had fallen asleep were raised.
Matthew 27:52 · SDVThe opened graves release the bodies they held.
And the sea gives up the dead who are in it; and death and the unseen give up the dead who are in them; and each one is judged according to their works.
Revelation 20:13 · SDVEven death and hell give up the dead held within them.
He guards all his bones; not one of them is broken.
Psalm 34:20 · SDV

Both verses use ⁨עֶצֶם⁩ (ʿetsem, bone). Jeremiah’s bones are exposed after burial, while this verse depicts bones kept intact; together, the shared word holds bodily vulnerability and preservation in view.
