This verse in the King James

King James wording
For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

The redeemer is a living kinsman who takes his stand on the very dust where loss has landed.

Your loss does not erase the claim on you: the one who reclaims is alive. He stands on the dust itself, where grief and ruin are real. This certainty lives beside suffering; it does not pretend the dust is gone.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie that what is lost is abandoned and beyond recovery gives way to the claim of a living redeemer who stands where it lies.

גֹּאֲלִי

goʾali

GROWS FROM

גאל

g-ʾ-l

To redeem or reclaim, acting as kin to recover what is lost or held.

“my redeemer” in this verse is goʾali. The word carries more than the idea of someone paying a price: a goʾel is a kinsman who takes up the claim and acts to reclaim. That makes Job’s confidence relational, the one who lives is bound to what has been lost.

ALSO GROWS

gaʾal: To redeem, reclaim, or act as a kinsman.

גָּאַל

The verb shows redemption as taking up a claim to recover what is lost.

goʾel: A kinsman-redeemer; one who reclaims as kin.

גֹּאֵל

This form names the person who enters the loss as a relative, not a distant observer.

geʾullah: Redemption or recovery by a kinsman.

גְּאֻלָּה

This noun shows the reclaiming as an act that restores what belongs within a relationship.

יָקוּם

yaqum

GROWS FROM

קום

q-w-m

To rise, stand, or become established.

“rises” in this verse is yaqum. The redeemer does not remain an idea above the scene: he stands on the dust. The verse puts the claim of recovery exactly where loss has touched the ground.

ALSO GROWS

qum: To rise or stand.

קוּם

This basic verb makes the redeemer’s presence an embodied stance.

heqim: To raise or establish.

הֵקִים

The causative form connects standing with being raised or set firmly in place.

חַי

chai

GROWS FROM

חיה

ḥ-y-h

To live or remain alive.

“lives” in this verse is chai. The redeemer’s life is part of the claim: the one who reclaims is himself living. The verse joins reclamation to life rather than leaving it as an abstract right.

ALSO GROWS

chayah: To live or remain alive.

חָיָה

The verb names the living condition the verse declares of the redeemer.

chayyim: Life or living.

חַיִּים

This noun keeps the root’s focus on life itself, the very thing the redeemer’s claim meets.

Redemption is the recovery of what loss holds through a living claim that releases it.

And the women said to Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, who has not left you this day without a redeemer, and let his name be called out in Israel.
Ruth 4:14 · SDVThe word “kinsman” carries the goʾel connection: Naomi is not left without someone who can take up the family claim.
Do not fear, you worm Jacob, and you men of Israel. I will help you, says the LORD, and the redeemer, the Set-Apart One of Israel.
Isaiah 41:14 · SDVThe redeemer is named directly as the one who helps and takes responsibility for the person addressed.
In him we have our ransom through his blood, the release of our stumbles, according to the riches of his favor.
Ephesians 1:7 · SDVRedemption and release from trespasses appear together as one movement of recovery.
Who redeems your life from the pit; who crowns you with faithful love and compassions.
Psalm 103:4 · SDV

“Redeemeth” comes from ⁨גאל⁩ (g-ʾ-l), the same root as Job’s “redeemer.” Psalm 103 joins that reclaiming directly to life rescued from destruction, so Job’s claim reaches the life that loss seems to swallow.
