King James wording
King James Version
Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.THE KEY
What looks like mere earth and stone already holds metal that human skill can draw into view.
THE MEANING
Iron comes from soil, and copper is poured from stone: the ground holds what its surface does not announce. Human skill brings that hidden yield into visible, usable form. The verse leaves a question hanging over the work: can wisdom be reached by digging in the same way?
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The surface tells you all a thing contains.
THE ROOT
יָצוּק
yāṣûq
GROWS FROM
יצק
To pour out or cast, especially into a form.
“poured out” in this verse is yāṣûq. The word rendered “molten” carries the sense of being poured or cast, so the image holds both hidden metal and the process that brings it out. This root can name the pouring and the formed result, linking the stone’s concealed yield to its transformation.
ALSO GROWS
yāṣaq: To pour or cast.
יָצַק
This verbal form names the action implied by the copper being poured from stone.
mûṣāq: Poured, cast, or solidly formed.
מוּצָק
This form shows the root can describe the material after it has been poured and taken shape.
yəṣîqāh: A pouring or casting.
יְצִיקָה
This noun names the casting process that turns hidden material into something accessible.
THE PATTERN
What lies hidden can be brought into view through searching, uncovering, and skill.
A land where you shall eat bread without want, and lack nothing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and from whose hills you may hew bronze. He binds the seeping of the rivers, and brings the hidden out to the light.Again, the governance of the heavens is like a treasure hidden in a field, which, when a man has found, he hides; and in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.THE THREAD
A land where you shall eat bread without want, and lack nothing in it; a land whose stones are iron, and from whose hills you may hew bronze.Job names iron and copper as metals drawn from earth and stone; Deuteronomy uses the same Hebrew metal words to describe what a land yields. That repeated vocabulary makes the ground itself a store of what human skill can uncover.
