This verse in the King James

King James wording
All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.

The human being carries the ground in its name and returns to dust: the end is already woven into the name.

Your body is mortal, and this verse names its end plainly: a return to dust. That return belongs to the shared condition of all flesh, not to one person’s special failure. Humanity returns to the earth from which its name comes.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that bodily death marks someone as uniquely failed; the verse places all flesh under the same end.

יָשׁוּב

yashuv

GROWS FROM

שוב

Turn back, return.

“turns back” in this verse is yashuv. The Hebrew root shuv (⁨שׁוּב⁩, return) makes death a return to dust, not merely an abstract ending. The same return-root appears in Genesis where humanity is told it will return to the ground.

ALSO GROWS

teshuvah: Return; turning back.

תְּשׁוּבָה

This branch keeps the turning inside the idea of return: the verse describes the body’s end as a going back.

heshiv: Bring back; restore.

הֵשִׁיב

The causative branch shows that the same root can name bringing something back, echoing the verse’s language of return.

אָדָם

adam

GROWS FROM

אדם

Human; the name Adam is linked to adamah, ground or soil.

“mortal man” in this verse is adam. The word adam (⁨אָדָם⁩, human) carries an earth-connection in its name: adamah (⁨אֲדָמָה⁩, ground or soil). The verse folds that connection into the ending, as the ground-being returns to dust.

ALSO GROWS

adam: Human; person.

אָדָם

This is the word used for humanity in the verse, making the return apply to the human condition.

adamah: Ground; soil.

אֲדָמָה

Its shared consonants connect the human name with the ground to which the verse says humanity returns.

Human mortality is a shared return to the earth from which creaturely life arises.

You hide your face, and they are shaken; you gather in their breath, and they breathe out and return to their dust.
Psalm 104:29 · SDVThe verse describes life ending and returning to dust as a condition shared by living creatures.
All go to one place; all come from the dust, and all turn back to the dust.
Ecclesiastes 3:20 · SDVIt states the same origin-and-return pattern for all people.
For as in Adam all die, so also in the Anointed One all will be made alive.
1 Corinthians 15:22 · SDVIt names death as the shared condition of all who are in Adam.
In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, until you turn back to the ground, for from it you were taken. For dust you are, and to dust you shall turn back.
Genesis 3:19 · SDV

Genesis uses the same Hebrew root shuv (⁨שׁוּב⁩, return) for the return to dust. It ties that return to adam (⁨אָדָם⁩, human), whose name is linked to adamah (⁨אֲדָמָה⁩, ground or soil), so the human’s return is already present in the earth-image carried by the name.
