This verse in the King James

King James wording
To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;

Rain reaches the wilderness where no one lives, so human presence is not what makes the earth receive it.

The verse places you before land receiving rain beyond human sight. Even the wilderness receives it when no person is there to ask for it, see it, or claim it.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that what is unseen or uninhabited is therefore uncared for: the rain reaches even there.

אָדָם

’ādām

GROWS FROM

אדם

ʾ-d-m

The consonantal family carries the sense of reddening; ⁨אָדָם⁩ means human and is commonly associated with ⁨אֲדָמָה⁩, ground.

English uses “man” twice, but the Hebrew first says ⁨אִישׁ⁩ (’îš, man) and then ⁨אָדָם⁩ (’ādām, human). The second word carries an echo of ⁨אֲדָמָה⁩ (’ădāmāh, ground): even where no ground-being is present, the ground still receives rain.

ALSO GROWS

’ădāmāh: Ground, soil

אֲדָמָה

Its association with ⁨אָדָם⁩ links the human being to the ground that receives the rain.

’ādōm: Red

אָדֹם

It shares the consonants ⁨אדם⁩ and preserves the root family’s concrete color sense alongside the word for human.

לְהַמְטִיר

lehamṭîr

GROWS FROM

מטר

m-ṭ-r

Rain; cause rain to fall.

“make it rain” in this verse is lehamṭîr. The verse uses a causative form of the rain word, presenting rain as something sent onto the earth. Its destination includes wilderness without human inhabitants, so the rain’s reach does not depend on anyone being there to witness it.

ALSO GROWS

māṭār: Rain

מָטָר

The noun names the rain itself, the provision reaching the empty land.

himṭîr: Cause to rain

הִמְטִיר

This causative form makes explicit the act of bringing rain onto the earth.

Rain reaches beyond human habitation and falls without sorting people by moral standing.

He covers the heavens with clouds, makes ready rain for the earth, and makes the grass sprout upon the mountains.
Psalm 147:8 · SDVRain and growth reach the mountains, extending care across land beyond human settlement.
So that you may become children of your Father in the heavens, for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the aligned and on the crooked.
Matthew 5:45 · SDVRain reaches people across the divide between just and unjust, just as Job’s rain reaches land without people.
So that you may become children of your Father in the heavens, for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the aligned and on the crooked.
Matthew 5:45 · SDV

Job shows rain reaching a place without people; Matthew shows it reaching people without regard to their moral standing. Together they reveal rain moving beyond both human presence and human merit.
