This verse in the King James

King James wording
Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.

“Departed” and “went” are two compounds of one Greek verb: leaving and moving onward are one continuous motion.

A pause can be real without being permanent: after two days, Jesus leaves one place and enters Galilee. In your own movement, staying for a time and moving onward can belong to the same journey.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

A stay only matters if it lasts. This verse lets a brief stay have its own boundary without making it meaningless.

ἐξῆλθεν

exēlthen

GROWS FROM

ἔρχομαι

erchomai

To come or go; to arrive or move. The compounds add direction: out from, or away toward.

“departed / went” in this verse is exēlthen. English gives us “departed” and “went” as separate actions. Greek repeats the same movement seed: first out from the place where Jesus has stayed, then onward into Galilee. The two days mark the pause; the shared root carries the motion through it.

ALSO GROWS

exerchomai: To come or go out from a place.

ἐξέρχομαι

This compound appears as “departed,” marking the movement away from where Jesus has stayed.

aperchomai: To go away from a place, often toward another destination.

ἀπέρχομαι

This compound appears as “went”; paired with “into Galilee,” it carries the movement toward the next place.

A departure can be one step in a continuing journey: leaving one place makes the next place part of the same movement.

So Abram went, as the LORD had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he went out of Haran.
Genesis 12:4 · SDVAbram’s departure from one place begins the next leg of his journey.
And he said to them, "Let us go into the neighboring towns, so that I may herald there also, for this is why I came out."
Mark 1:38 · SDVJesus names the next place as part of the same movement that brought him forth.
So they, sent out by the Set-Apart Breath, went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.
Acts 13:4 · SDVTheir departure leads directly into the next stage and destination.
So when the Samaritans came to him, they begged him to remain with them, and he remained there two days.
John 4:40 · SDV

“Were come” in this verse and “departed / went” in John 4:43 share the Greek movement verb ⁨ἔρχομαι⁩ (erchomai), meaning to come or go. The Samaritans ask Jesus to stay; he stays two days, then that bounded stay leads into onward movement.
