This verse in the King James

King James wording
One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him,

Andrew’s voice enters already joined to another: the verse names him as Peter’s brother before he is heard.

You are not an isolated voice; the relationships you carry are part of how you enter a moment. Andrew is named both as a disciple and as Peter’s brother before he speaks. His words open onto a small provision beside a vast need.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that being known through someone else makes you incidental: Andrew is named through Peter, yet he is the one who speaks.

ἀδελφός

GROWS FROM

δελφ-

delph-

Womb; ⁨ἀδελφός⁩ is traditionally understood as a “same-womb” formation.

English “brother” names a family role; ⁨ἀδελφός⁩ carries the image of shared origin. Andrew’s bond with Peter is woven into his introduction, so his voice enters the scene from within a relationship.

ALSO GROWS

adelphē: Sister; a female sibling.

ἀδελφή

The feminine form keeps the same kinship image: siblings share an origin.

adelphotēs: Brotherhood; a community understood as siblings.

ἀδελφότης

The family word can extend beyond one pair of siblings to describe a wider bond.

Kinship gives a voice a path for naming what is hidden, distant, or newly recognized.

Joseph said to his brothers, Draw near to me, I pray you. And they drew near. And he said, I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold into Egypt.
Genesis 45:4 · SDVJoseph reveals who he is through the bond of brotherhood that remains between them.
He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, We have found the Anointed One.
John 1:41 · SDVAndrew carries his recognition to Simon through the relationship named again in this verse.
For whoever does the will of God, this one is my brother, and my sister, and my mother.
Mark 3:35 · SDVJesus describes belonging through kinship, widening the circle of who is called family.
He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, We have found the Anointed One.
John 1:41 · SDV

The same Greek word for brother, ⁨ἀδελφός⁩ (adelphos), links the two verses. Andrew first brings what he has found to his brother Simon; here, the bond with Peter is named before Andrew speaks.
