This verse in the King James

King James wording
And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.

Judgment remains active in the Philistines’ days: the work of ordering life continues while pressure still surrounds it.

For you now, the verse holds pressure and governance in the same frame: a constricted season does not erase every source of order. The work of discernment continues within the pressure, even while the larger condition remains unresolved. The twenty years give that work duration.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It dissolves the belief that order or leadership can exist only after a difficult season ends.

וַיִּשְׁפֹּט

vayyishpōṭ

GROWS FROM

שפט

sh-p-ṭ

To judge or decide; the verb can also describe governing and administering justice.

“judged” in this verse is vayyishpōṭ. The Hebrew root ⁨שפט⁩ (shaphat, judge or govern) also gives rise to the words for judgment and judge. The verse holds the act of judging together with the larger work of ordering a people, and places that work within the Philistines’ days.

ALSO GROWS

mishpat: Judgment or justice.

מִשְׁפָּט

This branch shows the standard or order shaped by the work of judging.

shofet: A judge or ruler.

1 Samuel 7:15 · SDV

Both verses use ⁨שפט⁩ (shaphat, judge or govern) for the work carried out among Israel. One places that work across a pressured season; the other across a lifetime, revealing judgment as ongoing governance.
