What Does 1 Kings 1:10 Mean in the King James?
But Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not.

THE KEY
A withheld summons draws the boundary of the gathering before anyone can answer.
THE MEANING
A powerful person can shape a future by choosing who is invited into the room. The verse places a prophet, a commander, the warriors, and a brother outside the gathering before they can take part. Exclusion can begin with a name left off the summons.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The lie this undoes is that exclusion only happens through open rejection; leaving someone uncalled can itself shut them out.
THE ROOT
קָרָא
qārāʾ
GROWS FROM
ק־ר־א
q-r-ʾ
To call out, summon, or proclaim
“called not” in this verse is qārāʾ. The branch מִקְרָא (miqra, a convocation or assembly) shows how a call gathers people into a shared space; withholding it can define who is kept outside. The omitted names sharpen the scene: Nathan (נָתָן, Natan, “he has given”), Benaiah (בְּנָיָהוּ, Bənāyāhū, “YHWH has built”), and Solomon (שְׁלֹמֹה, Shelomoh, a name linked to shalom, “wholeness”) are all left out.
ALSO GROWS
miqra: Convocation, assembly
מִקְרָא
A miqra is a gathering called into being; the missing summons determines who can join it.
qeri'ah: Calling, proclamation, reading aloud
קְרִיאָה
The same root can make something publicly heard, so not calling someone can also withhold public recognition and participation.
THE PATTERN
A summons shapes who can enter a gathering: withholding it excludes, while extending it opens a place.
Make thee two trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the camps.Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.THE THREAD
Make thee two trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the camps. The same Hebrew root, קרא (qara, “call” or “summon”), appears in “the calling of the assembly.” There, the call gathers people; here, withholding it marks who is kept outside.
