The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
The analysis reads the King James wording.
King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The verse makes favor a present companion: the Greek word for favor also grows into freely given gift and forgiveness.
THE MEANING
The favor of the Lord Jesus Christ is with you now: freely given kindness accompanies you. The name Jesus carries deliverance from narrowness into spaciousness, and Christ names the anointed one. This is present assurance, not a condition waiting to be fulfilled.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the belief that favor is withheld until you become worthy: here, favor is already named as being with you.
THE ROOT
χάρις
cháris
GROWS FROM
χαρ
Favor, graciousness, freely given kindness.
“grace” in this verse is cháris. The Greek word χάρις (cháris, favor) belongs to the same family as words for a freely given gift and for granting or forgiving freely. Favor here carries both the kindness with you and the gift that kindness gives.
ALSO GROWS
chárisma: A freely given gift, a favor granted.
χάρισμα
The shared χαρ sounds show favor taking the form of something given.
charízomai: To grant freely, show favor, or forgive.
χαρίζομαι
Favor can release a claim or debt, connecting the kindness with you to the act of letting go.
eucharistía: Thanksgiving, gratitude.
εὐχαριστία
The same χαρ family links received favor with the response of thanks.
יֵשׁוּעַ
Yēšūaʿ
GROWS FROM
ישע
To deliver, bringing one out from constriction into spaciousness.
“Jesus” in this verse is Yēšūaʿ. The name carries the nature of deliverance: the one named is bound to the movement from narrowness into room. The same root gives words for delivering and for deliverance itself.
ALSO GROWS
yāshaʿ: To deliver, rescue, bring into safety.
יָשַׁע
The name rests on the action of deliverance, giving the benediction’s favor a nature that brings one out.
yeshuʿah: Deliverance, rescue.
יְשׁוּעָה
The same root names the spacious outcome carried in the name Jesus.
mōshīaʿ: Deliverer, rescuer.
מוֹשִׁיעַ
This branch names the one who enacts the root’s movement from distress into deliverance.
Χριστός
Christós
GROWS FROM
χρί
To anoint, apply oil.
Christ names the anointed one; its root carries the act of anointing inside the title. The verse’s name and title hold both deliverance and anointing together.
ALSO GROWS
chríō: To anoint.
χρίω
This verb shares the χρι root and names the act from which the title is formed.
chrîsma: Anointing, an anointing substance.
χρῖσμα
This noun shares the root and makes the title’s anointing visible as an act or its result.
THE PATTERN
Favor arrives as present accompaniment and sustenance, rather than a distant reward.
The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.THE THREAD
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.Both verses use χάρις (cháris, favor). In 2 Corinthians, that favor is sufficient in weakness, opening the benediction’s words “with you” as sustaining presence.
