What Does 2 Corinthians 12:9 Mean in the King James?
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The strength does not wait for weakness to disappear; it reaches its full measure there and pitches its tent over you.
THE MEANING
The favor given to you is enough right where you lack strength. What feels unfinished becomes the place where Christ’s power reaches its full expression and settles over you. Your limits do not cancel that presence.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The lie that weakness makes you unfit for divine power dissolves here: weakness is where that power comes to full expression and rests upon you.
THE ROOT
τελεῖται
teleitai
GROWS FROM
τελ-
tel-
To bring to an end, goal, or completion.
“made perfect” in this verse is teleitai. The Greek word describes strength being brought to completion; “perfect” can sound like flawlessness in English. The verse says strength reaches its full expression in weakness, not that weakness must first be removed.
ALSO GROWS
teleioō: Bring to completion or fulfillment.
τελειόω
It shares the completion sense, showing that strength can reach its intended end in the very place that looks incomplete.
teleios: Complete, mature, brought to its goal.
τέλειος
It carries the same sense of reaching a goal, rather than being without any flaw.
ἐπισκηνώσῃ
episkēnōsē
GROWS FROM
σκην-
skēn-
Tent or dwelling.
The word translated “rest upon” carries the image of pitching a tent over someone. Christ’s power is pictured as settling over you, not merely pausing beside you.
ALSO GROWS
skēnē: Tent or tabernacle.
σκηνή
This is the dwelling image inside “rest upon,” making the power’s presence feel like shelter.
skēnoō: Dwell or take up residence in a tent.
σκηνόω
It shares the tent-root and shows how the image extends from pitching a tent to dwelling.
THE PATTERN
Divine power reaches people in their limits, making weakness a place where its sufficiency becomes visible.
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;THE THREAD
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.“Infirmities” here is the same Greek word, ἀσθένεια (astheneia), translated “weakness” in the verse above. The shared root links weakness with the place where help and power meet you.
